We are seeking an experienced and proactive Workshop Manager to lead the day-to-day operation of our Mechanical and Electronics Workshop, ensuring it operates safely, efficiently and to the highest technical standards. In this varied and hands-on role, you will supervise and develop a skilled team of technicians, manage workshop facilities, equipment and budgets, and act as a key technical partner across research, teaching and enterprise activities.
You will oversee the design, prototyping and manufacture of bespoke experimental rigs, instrumentation and test systems, while providing expert advice on materials, manufacturing methods, electronic integration and commissioning. The role also involves managing supplier relationships, evaluating outsourcing opportunities, developing cost-recovery processes, and driving continuous improvement across workshop operations and services.
We are looking for a qualified engineering professional with significant experience managing a technical or engineering workshop environment, ideally within research or higher education industry. You will bring strong leadership skills, practical fabrication and problem-solving expertise, and the ability to balance hands-on technical support with operational and administrative responsibilities.
