An established and highly respected civil engineering contractor is looking to appoint a Quantity Surveyor to join its growing commercial team, supporting the delivery of long-term water and wastewater infrastructure frameworks.

Reporting to the Senior Quantity Surveyor or Commercial Manager, you will be responsible for the commercial management of multiple civil engineering projects across water and wastewater infrastructure schemes. Working closely with Project Managers, Site Managers, Engineers and the wider delivery team, you will ensure robust commercial control throughout the project lifecycle while maintaining strong relationships with clients, subcontractors and suppliers.
You will become an integral member of the project team, helping maximise project profitability whilst maintaining contractual compliance and supporting successful project delivery.
- Commercial Management
- Manage the commercial performance of allocated projects from award through to final account.
- Prepare interim applications for payment and negotiate valuations with the client.
- Produce and agree final accounts.
- Monitor project profitability, cost performance and cash flow.
- Assist with forecasting project costs and anticipated final accounts.
- Prepare Cost Value Reconciliations (CVRs) and monthly commercial reports.
- Monitor project margins and identify commercial risks and opportunities.
- Procure subcontractors in accordance with company procedures.
- Assess subcontractor applications for payment.
- Agree subcontract variations and final accounts.
- Identify, price and manage project variations.
- Ensure compensation events and contractual changes are captured promptly.
- Maintain comprehensive commercial records to support recovery of project costs.
- Work collaboratively with operational teams to maximise entitlement under the contract.
- Review project expenditure against budget.
- Support value engineering initiatives to improve project profitability.
- Ensure accurate cost reporting throughout the project lifecycle.
- Project Delivery Support
- Work closely with Project Managers and Site Teams to understand project progress.
- Attend commercial and progress meetings.
- Support programme delivery through effective commercial planning.
- Identify commercial risks early and contribute to mitigation strategies.
- Maintain accurate project documentation and commercial records.
- Provide commercial advice to operational teams.
The successful candidate will ideally have experience working within civil engineering, utilities or infrastructure projects and be comfortable managing multiple schemes simultaneously.
- Degree or HND in Quantity Surveying or a related construction discipline.
- Experience as a Quantity Surveyor within civil engineering or infrastructure.
- Knowledge of NEC forms of contract (essential).
- Strong commercial awareness and financial management skills.
- Ability to build relationships across project teams.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Experience within water, utilities, drainage or wastewater infrastructure would be advantageous but is not essential.
