The Customs Compliance Specialist is responsible for the support to the Compliance of AIT’s compliance programs and practices within the European region, in particular customs compliance to ensure that the organization complies with transportation and trade related regulatory requirements and internal company policies.
Responsibilities
- Manage, train and coordinate the execution of the customs compliance program as set out by the Sr. Compliance leadership, by gathering compliance metrics, monitoring the execution of audits, advising on government inspections and investigations, and executing compliance training.
- Ownership to manage a customs compliance audit plan, that is aligned with the Global Compliance strategy.
- Support the Director of Compliance Europe to develop and execute the compliance program, continue education, and promote AIT’s compliance strategy across local stations.
- Identify changes in EU regulation and advise on changes in policies and/or procedures because of these changes.
- Support the Director of Compliance Europe to roll out compliance audits, policies, procedures, and internal controls by training local staff.
- Gather, analyze and share the Key Performance Indicators with the local operational stakeholders to track and improve performance in areas of compliance and corporate policy.
- Lead internal meetings with local operational staff to support the continuous improvement of the customs services provided by analyzing audit results, advising on countermeasures and suggesting improvements to the organization.
- Be the first point of escalation in the country to compliance questions regarding sanctions, controlled exports and customs.
- Build and manage productive relationships with each branch’s leadership team by providing guidance on customs related activities and opportunities.
- Execute the Internal control program (AO/IC, AEO) and conduct the annual self‑assessment process.
- Be a front runner to identify compliance risks and report these to the Director of Compliance Europe.
- Support the country in the roll out of and adherence to Compliance related projects and policies.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of relevant and notable work experience as customs agent and/or customs specialist.
- 2+ years in executing customs consultancy.
