Aisel is hiring a VP of Engineering to lead the technical team building infrastructure for modern mental health care. Our platform structures psychiatric narratives, improves consultations, and reduces documentation burden for clinicians. Through AI-guided patient interviews and clinician support tools, we help mental health services spend more time on care and less on administration. We are an early-stage company working closely with pilot clinics to build technology that fits real clinical workflows.

This role is for a leader who can own engineering execution, grow a high-performing team, and work closely with product and clinical stakeholders to ship technology that genuinely improves mental health care.

About Us

Psychiatry is fundamentally narrative medicine. Clinical understanding emerges through patient stories unfolding across time, context, and relationships. Yet most healthcare software was built for billing, recordkeeping, and measurable variables rather than narrative reasoning. As a result, clinicians often spend large amounts of time reconstructing patient histories and writing documentation instead of focusing on care. Aisel builds systems that structure psychiatric narratives before the clinical note is written. The platform organises patient histories, symptom timelines, and contextual information so clinicians enter consultations with a clearer overview. Our goal is to increase clinical capacity without compromising care quality — freeing up to 40% more time for direct patient care.

What You Will Do

  • Own the engineering roadmap and delivery across the full Aisel platform.
  • Lead and grow a cross-functional engineering team, establishing strong practices around hiring, performance, and culture.
  • Work closely with product and clinical teams to translate complex mental health workflows into scalable, reliable systems.
  • Drive technical architecture decisions for AI-supported patient interviews, consultation tools, and documentation workflows.
  • Ensure the platform meets the reliability, security, and compliance standards required in healthcare environments, including GDPR and EU data hosting requirements.
  • Build the engineering foundation that supports Aisel's expansion from pilot clinics to broader deployment across UK mental health services.
  • Represent engineering at the leadership level, contributing to company strategy and direction.

Who We Are Looking For

  • Proven experience as a VP of Engineering or equivalent engineering leadership role, ideally at an early or growth-stage company.
  • A track record of building and scaling high-performing engineering teams from the ground up.
  • Strong technical foundation with the ability to make credible architecture and infrastructure decisions.
  • Experience shipping products in regulated or compliance-sensitive environments — healthcare, fintech, or similar.
  • Comfortable operating in an early-stage environment where ambiguity is normal and priorities evolve quickly.
  • Excellent communicator who can work across clinical, product, and business stakeholders.

Ideal Background

  • Experience in digital health, clinical systems, or AI-powered products.
  • Familiarity with UK healthcare technology standards or NHS digital infrastructure is a plus.
  • Experience with AI or LLM-based products in a production environment.
  • Background working with small, focused engineering teams where individual contributions matter.

Why This Role Matters

Demand for mental health care is growing rapidly while clinician time remains limited. Technology can help expand access to care, but only if it is built well. This role leads the team responsible for turning that ambition into a working product — one that is trusted by clinicians, valued by clinics, and built to scale.

Compensation

We offer a competitive salary and meaningful equity. Aisel has recently closed a funding round and this is an opportunity to join at an early stage with real ownership in what we are building.

Location

Remote within the UK or hybrid depending on candidate preference.
