Senior Software Engineer, Payments Platform (Relocate to Amsterdam)
We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our Payments Platform team based in Amsterdam. This role focuses on building high‑visibility payment infrastructure and improving the merchant experience.

What You’ll Do
As a core member of the core acquiring payment team, you will: play a key role in global payments; design, build, and operate payment systems; collaborate with product and partner engineering teams; and focus on merchant needs.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement new capabilities aligned with the product roadmap
- Develop REST services and integration components within a backend microservices architecture, connecting with the React frontend
- Conduct architectural reviews for current and upcoming solutions
- Address tech debt and enhance operational effectiveness
Minimum Qualifications
- Over 5 years of experience in contemporary engineering practices, continuous integration, and quality engineering
- Strong computer science fundamentals, recent focus on Java or Kotlin, Spring / Spring Boot technologies
- Experience designing and constructing REST APIs, handling high‑volume distributed systems, Kafka event streams, and distributed data storage systems such as Cassandra, Hazelcast, Oracle Coherence, or similar
- Proficiency with cloud platforms like GCP or AWS (EC2, RDS, ELB, CloudFront), and containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes
- Skilled in JavaScript / TypeScript and operational tooling (New Relic, StatsD, ELK, Datadog, Prometheus)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience developing payment gateways, acquiring, or issuing platforms
- Expertise integrating local payment methods (iDeal, Klarna, Trustly) or major cards (Visa, Mastercard)
