We’re looking for an experienced Enterprise Risk Manager to play a key role in strengthening and embedding our Integrated Risk Management (IRM) framework. Operating in a highly regulated and operationally complex aviation environment, this role is central to ensuring that risks and opportunities across the organisation are identified, assessed, managed and reported effectively. Working closely with leaders and risk owners, you’ll help enable informed decision‑making, support sustainable performance, and enhance organisational resilience.
Why AirTanker? AirTanker is a vital part of the UK’s defence capability, delivering air-to-air refuelling and air transport services to the RAF and MOD. We operate at the intersection of military precision and commercial innovation. As an Enterprise Risk Manager, you will play a key role in strengthening the organisation’s ability to identify, assess and manage risk across the business. Working closely with senior leaders, Risk Owners, governance forums and assurance teams, you will coordinate enterprise‑wide risk activity and provide clear, actionable insight. Your work will directly support informed decision‑making, organisational resilience and the safe, compliant and sustainable delivery of operations.
What's in it for you?
- Senior Stakeholder Exposure: Gain regular exposure to senior leaders, strengthening your credibility and experience in high‑level governance and assurance.
- Autonomy & Ownership: Take ownership of the enterprise risk framework and systems, with the scope to shape processes, drive improvement and leave a lasting impact.
- Variety & Influence: Enjoy a varied role combining strategic insight with hands‑on delivery, spanning risk assessment, reporting, system ownership and stakeholder engagement, with real influence over decision‑making and organisational resilience.
- Comprehensive Benefits: Including private medical insurance, bonus scheme, EV scheme, contributory pension, and more.
- Adventure & Belonging: Battlefield tours, adventure training, and family fun days.
What you'll be doing:
- Maintain and embed an effective Integrated Risk Management (IRM) framework aligned to best practice.
- Facilitate enterprise‑wide risk threat and opportunity assessments, working with Risk Owners and Risk Champions to maintain a high‑quality, up‑to‑date risk and opportunity profile.
- Own and maintain the IRM Risk Register, overseeing data quality, monitoring mitigation progress and effectiveness and overall risk exposure, providing constructive challenge where required.
- Provide clear, insightful risk reporting to senior leaders, committees and the Board, translating complex risk data into actionable insight.
- Support strategic decision‑making by providing risk input into business planning, projects and investments.
- Promote a proactive and strong risk culture through stakeholder engagement, training and guidance.
- Support alignment between enterprise risk, safety, compliance and assurance activities.
- Lead the use and ongoing improvement of the organisation’s risk management system.
What you'll bring:
- Essential: Proven experience in Enterprise Risk Management, ideally within aviation, aerospace or another high‑risk, regulated environment.
- Strong working knowledge of corporate governance and risk management frameworks (particularly ISO 31000).
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to convert complex risk information into clear, actionable insight.
- Confident communicator, able to challenge and influence senior stakeholders with credibility.
- Comfortable working cross‑functionally and balancing strategic thinking with practical delivery.
- Desirable: Experience working with or alongside a Safety Management System (SMS), quality or compliance function.
- A professional risk qualification (e.g. IRM, CII, ISO Lead Auditor).
- Experience using risk management systems, dashboards or analytics tools.
- Background in aviation operations, engineering, safety or regulatory affairs.
