Position Overview

Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Business Analyst (AI & Commodities Trading) to support the expansion of AI-enabled products within a global commodities trading environment.

The successful candidate will act as the bridge between business stakeholders and technology teams, translating complex trading and commercial challenges into innovative digital and AI-driven solutions.

This role offers the opportunity to work closely with traders, schedulers, commercial teams, product owners, engineers, and data scientists on strategic initiatives that drive business value and operational excellence.

The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in Commodities Trading, Products Trading, Supply & Distribution, Logistics, Risk Management, and Commercial Optimization, combined with experience delivering digital transformation and AI-related initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Business Analysis Leadership
  • Lead discovery workshops, requirements gathering, process modelling, and business analysis activities across strategic initiatives.
  • Translate business challenges and opportunities into clear functional and technical requirements.
  • Define user stories, process flows, capability maps, acceptance criteria, and business outcomes.
  • Facilitate workshops with traders, operators, schedulers, planners, commercial teams, and technology stakeholders.
  • Ensure alignment across business, product, engineering, and data teams throughout the delivery lifecycle.
  • Support Agile product development and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • AI & Digital Product Enablement
  • Identify opportunities to leverage AI, Generative AI, and advanced analytics within trading and commercial workflows.
  • Collaborate with AI engineers, data scientists, and developers to design and implement AI-enabled solutions.
  • Support product discovery, MVP definition, testing, adoption, and scaling of successful AI products.
  • Translate business use cases into requirements suitable for Machine Learning and Large Language Model (LLM) solutions.
  • Evaluate business value, adoption opportunities, and operational impact of AI initiatives.
  • Commodities Trading Expertise
  • Provide analysis and subject matter expertise across areas including: Crude Trading Refined Products Trading Deal Capture & Trade Lifecycle Management Commercial Operations Scheduling & Logistics Inventory Management Supply & Distribution Blending & Optimization Risk & Exposure Management Margin & P&L Analysis Trading Analytics & Decision Support Front, Middle, and Back Office Processes
  • Stakeholder Management
  • Build trusted relationships with stakeholders across Trading & Supply, Commercial, Technology, and Product organizations.
  • Effectively communicate with both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Influence decision-making and drive alignment across multiple teams and workstreams.
  • Manage competing priorities while supporting multiple strategic initiatives.
  • Leadership & Mentoring
  • Provide guidance and mentoring to Business Analysts and project team members.
  • Promote business analysis best practices and standards.
  • Contribute to capability development within the BA community.
  • Act as a trusted advisor on complex business and technology initiatives.
  • Required Experience
  • Extensive Business Analysis experience within Commodities Trading, Energy Trading, or Trading & Supply environments.
  • Strong understanding of Products Trading business processes and value chains.
  • Proven experience working directly with traders, operators, schedulers, planners, and commercial stakeholders.
  • Experience supporting large-scale digital transformation programs.
  • Strong requirements gathering, workshop facilitation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Experience working within Agile delivery environments.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and influencing skills.
  • Experience delivering AI, Machine Learning, Advanced Analytics, or data-driven business solutions.
  • Understanding of Generative AI, Large Language Models (LLMs), and AI-enabled product development.
  • Experience translating business requirements into AI and analytics use cases.
