Overview of the Network & Cyber Security Engineer – Automation & Control Systems role for a leading Energy client.
Location: Hybrid (onsite Tue & Wed in Aberdeen, Glasgow, Reading or Staines).
Security Clearance: Must pass HMG BPSS.
Setup: Contract / Hourly rate (Outside IR35). Duration: Initial 12 months contract.
A leading Energy client is seeking a Network & Cyber Security Engineer to support secure design and implementation of Operational Technology (OT) networks across UK-based projects. This role combines network engineering and industrial cybersecurity, requiring hands-on experience with IEC 62443, IEC 27001, and control system platforms. You’ll assess cyber risks, design secure architectures, and implement solutions such as firewalls, intrusion detection systems, patch management, and incident response plans.
Responsibilities:
- Cyber tools: Vulnerability scanners, antivirus, IDS
- Certifications: CCNA/CCNP, GICSP, ISA/IEC 62443 (desirable)
- Producing network architecture diagrams, FAT testing procedures, and technical bid evaluations
- Supporting brownfield upgrades and secure integration of automation systems
- Applying cybersecurity principles to OT environments, including risk assessments and mitigation strategies
- Design secure architectures and implement solutions such as firewalls, IDS, patch management, and incident response plans
Qualifications:
- Strong technical depth in automation and control systems
- Experience with OT security, IEC 62443, IEC 27001
- Security clearance: BPSS; must pass HMG BPSS
