Location: Aberdeen or Norfolk (or UK wide if available to travel)

Responsibilities

  • To undertake electrical inspections and remedial works on hazardous area electrical equipment.
  • To assist and comply with permit to work and isolation systems.
  • To be fully conversant with the electrical installations in hazardous areas in accordance with BS EN 60079-14 : 2014
  • To be fully conversant with the testing, inspection, and maintenance in hazardous areas in accordance with BS EN 60079-14 : 2014
  • System FAT and function testing of electrical control panels and assisting supervisors with fault-finding.
  • Upgrade of hazardous area electrical equipment or redundant electrical equipment.
  • Corrective maintenance and fault finding of client electrical control systems and equipment.
  • Inspection and surveying of client electrical control systems.
  • Ensuring installation integrity, reliability, availability, and maintainability of electrical and control equipment.
  • Ensuring, by audit, that all switching of LV electrical equipment is in accordance with operational procedures, safety principles, legal requirements and that all registers are maintained accurately.
  • To undertake the calibration of instruments e.g., actuators, pressure switches, transmitters and anything required by the company that is within your competency.
  • Act as Technical Authority for E&I issues in compliance with performance standards.
  • Knowledge of PLC’s, network communications and motor control VFD / SCR.
  • To oversee and maintain, troubleshoot, and repair all offshore / onshore power generation and distribution equipment e.g., generators and engine controls, SCR’s, switchgear, transformers, building services and lighting.
  • Assist with the maintenance and repair of general offshore / onshore electrical equipment such as HVAC systems, refrigeration panels, communication systems, building services and lighting.
  • Provide written and oral documentation of job status.
  • Ensure the SMS quality management system and design procedures are followed and standards are maintained.
  • Maintain and promote a professional and harmonious relationship with SMS and with the customers’ representatives.
  • The ability to complete client work orders and time sheets correctly and to the satisfaction of SMS, the client and the end user.
  • Detailed completion of project close out reports, documentation and certification (signed, dated and identified correctly for invoicing and for inclusion within certification books). Timely submission to the supervisor or engineer.

  • Follow SMS, and where appropriate Client’s, Quality, Health, Safety & Environment Policies and Safety Management Systems.

Qualifications

Education and Training (Essential)

  • Current Passport.
  • Current OGUK Medical.
  • Current OPITO Minimum Industry Safety Training (MIST).
  • Current OPITO Survival.
  • City & Guilds 2360 Electrical Installation Theory Practice Parts 1 & 2 or equivalent.
  • City & Guilds 2382 BS7671 IEE Wiring Regulations Electrical Installation.
  • CompEx Level 01 to 04.

Skills & Competencies (Essential)

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must possess strong organisational skills.
  • Attention to detail to ensure a high level of accuracy is achieved.
  • Able to work under pressure and respond to the demands of a high and varied workload.
  • Able to work on own initiative as well as being a team player.
  • Able to communicate with clients / client’s representatives.

General & Specialist Knowledge (Essential)

  • Understanding of electrical drawings.
  • Proficient in Windows based software.

Relevant Experience (Essential)

  • Installation, inspection, testing, maintenance, and fault finding of electrical installations / control systems.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain relationships and effective channels of communication in a pressurised and highly time sensitive environment.
  • Experience of working in a demanding client-driven industry with a structured approach to problem solving and innovative thinking.

Desirable

  • City & Guilds BS7671 18th Edition.
  • City & Guilds 2391 Inspection and Testing Course.
  • Shell Electrical Safety Rules (ESR) for HV and LV.
  • CompEx Level 05 and 06.
  • Significant experience in a similar role.
  • Experience and understanding of the oil and gas industry
