The Sheet Metal Fabricator/Fitter role is to contribute to the delivery of bespoke, high‑quality helicopter solutions through complex prototype development, retrofit, and series production. The role involves developing and manufacturing detailed parts from sheet metal to aviation standards within a workshop or hangar, assembling components, and working closely with the design team on prototype work. Carry out detailed inspections of subcontractor manufactured parts to ensure compliance with engineering drawings. Carrying out repairs to in-service helicopters using sheet metal and composite techniques, with the overall output to maintain the safety and airworthiness of helicopters within the customisation and MRO departments.

Main responsibilities:

  • Accomplishment of work as directed by the Installation Supervisor or Certifying Engineer
  • Manufacture detailed parts from sheet metal
  • Inspect parts manufactured by subcontractors
  • Assembling parts manufactured by subcontractors
  • Applying protective coatings
  • Working closely with the design team
  • All parts manufactured must be in compliance with the design data to ensure safe operation of aircraft
  • Working as part of a team or individually depending on the specific work packages
  • Assist in day-to-day running of the hangar, including aircraft handling
  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping in line with the “Clean As You Go” initiative
  • Working within a highly regulated environment
  • Carry out repairs to helicopter structures and components
  • Flexible working attitude to deal with changing priorities within the departments

Knowledge and Skills:

Essential:

  • Ability to work as part of a team, and on own initiative, to high standards to ensure the continued safe operation of the aircraft
  • Be able to read and understand detailed engineering drawings and associated data
  • Interest in DIY
  • Good manual hand skills
  • Able to work in confined spaces
  • Good communication skills
  • Reliable with ability to remain calm when under pressure
  • Well organised and methodical with a high attention to detail
  • Able to adhere to the requirements of H&S to wear the appropriate PPE for each task
  • Ability to use Google Office and MS products

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of techniques used in manufacturing parts from sheet metal to close tolerance
  • Knowledge of types of fasteners used to assemble sheet metal and components using rivets, mechanical fasteners and adhesive bonding used in aviation
  • Ability to use SAP / Envision

Education, Qualifications or Training:

Essential:

  • Minimum Level 2 qualification in Fabrication
  • Must be able to present examples of work done via photographic record
  • Previous experience in a similar role such as Sheet Metal Working, Metal Fabrication, Mechanical Fitter or Automotive repair
  • Clean Driving Licence

Desirable:

  • Aviation experience
  • Sheet Metal Experience
  • Composites Experience
