We are urgently seeking an experienced Complex Care Support Worker to provide one-to-one support for a client with autism, severe learning disabilities, ADHD, an eating disorder, and challenging behaviour. This role requires a compassionate, patient, and proactive individual who can create a calm and structured environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Providing personalised support tailored to the client’s needs and preferences.
- Encouraging and assisting the client in engaging with his hobbies, including walking, arts and crafts, gardening, and various community-based activities.
- Supporting the client in building confidence and independence in a structured and reassuring manner.
- Using de-escalation techniques and a breakaway-trained approach to manage challenging behaviours (restraint is not permitted).
- Helping to establish routines that promote emotional well-being and stability.
- Communicating effectively with the wider support team and family members.
Requirements:
- Experience supporting individuals with complex needs, including autism, ADHD, severe learning disabilities, and challenging behaviours.
- Breakaway training (not restraint-based) is essential.
- A valid driving licence – while driving responsibilities will not be immediate, we prefer candidates who can eventually transport the client.
- Strong communication skills – a clear, calming, and non-reactive approach is essential.
- Ability to remain composed under pressure and manage situations with a de-escalation mindset.
- A stable and balanced personal life, as the client is highly perceptive to stress in others.
Ideal Candidate:
We are looking for a support worker who is emotionally resilient, patient, and consistent. The right person will have a calm demeanour, be adaptable, and avoid reactive behaviour. This role is not suited to individuals with a highly stressful or dramatic personal life, as the client is sensitive to external stressors.
