About the role
The overall purpose of the role is to lead and motivate the UK Logistics team and manage all UK Transport operations, with the ultimate aim of ensuring delivery of product on time, with exceptional customer service and to lead/ drive forward a number of inter-related projects that evolve /improve logistic processes, policies, and systems.
These should support the increasing growth of the Company and be fit for purpose for both now and with future growth/needs in mind.
Responsibilities
- Monitor the UK Logistic Supervisors and Coordinators workload on a daily basis and be the 2nd escalation point (Supervisors 1st Escalation Point) for any issues in the UK logistics team.
- Lead, direct and motivate the Logistic Supervisors /Coordinators including setting objectives and conducting performance conversations, providing coaching, identifying individual and team training needs.
- Provide regular updates to the Managing Director on team performance and any Logistic related issues.
- Assist the UK Logistics Compliance Manger with any related compliance issues/projects (Excise, HCDG, HMRC, Duty).
- Regularly update the UK Sales Team/ Account Managers on any important Transport related issues that may impact their customers/orders (Haulage problems, Rates, external problems).
- Run the logistics meetings/ or if Supervisors are running, attend when required.
- Oversee Non-Conformances and work with Logistic Supervisors to ensure NCs are investigated and resolved in a timely manner, and that adequate preventative action is provided / implemented to reduce the chance of a reoccurrence.
- Plus keep the UK Logistics team updated with any important outcomes.
- Oversee Proof of Export process to ensure they are closed within the allocated time period.
- Escalate to account manager, MD, CFO accordingly for any VAT issues.
- Oversee Demurrage/Additional Cost Process to ensure they are being handled in an acceptable timescale and that funds are being recouped where possible.
- Oversee Teams INVU’s, making sure they are resolved before invoice due dates. Any issues to be escalated to Accounts Payable.
- Provide support and guidance on additional projects/ work taken on by the UK logistic supervisors/coordinators.
- Manage all UK Transport operations, this includes, Rate Reviews, Yearly Audits (alongside UK Logistic Compliance Manager) and monitoring/reviewing haulier performance.
- Regular meetings with key haulage partners should happen once a year to help maintain and build on existing relationships.
- Identifying new haulier options which provide a cost-effective solution whilst still maintaining excellent standards on delivery.
- Allocate and monitor the haulier allocation (linked to customer allocation) ensuring work is allocated fairly among haulage partners whilst also taking into consideration cost and preferred routes.
- Alongside the Operations Manager help identify any potential NAV improvements to ensure it is fit for purpose and is allowing the UK Logistic team to work in the most efficient and effective way.
- Analyse any trends from the Non-Conformance report for any NCs related to UK team and present findings to Operations Manager.
Experience
- Extensive logistics experience in a similar environment, (ideally with a knowledge of road and sea transport, hazardous goods, and export/import processes)
- Strong analytical skills and financial acumen
- Experience of managing and leading an internal logistics/customer service team
- Excellent organisational and time management skills with the ability to prioritise own & team workload
- Ability to perform tasks under pressure, think independently and balance many tasks simultaneously
- Excellent customer service skills, including strong interpersonal and communication skills and ability to deal with difficult customer
- IT literacy and the ability to handle electronic data
