About us

Join the Future Programmes & Proposals team in Stevenage, UK and work on some of the most exciting space missions of the future with Airbus.

The Future Programmes & Proposals department in Earth Observation and Science is the place where programs are created, and mission concepts elaborated for the most exciting European missions of the future!

Our team is responsible for assessing the feasibility of future missions and programmes for the European Space Agency (ESA). This involves the technical design of spacecraft, planning, risk assessment, and costing. We also engage in discussions with customers about the scientific and operational goals of a mission, enabling them to make informed decisions about the next steps.

This placement will give a wide overview of the work performed not only in the Future Programmes group but across Airbus, participating in the elaboration of future missions, as well as supporting Airbus to win further proposals.

The project teams as well as the various experts will provide any necessary support. The successful applicant will therefore gain valuable experience for a potential future in the space industry.

What you will be doing

Across Earth Observation and Science there are always multiple studies running in parallel, and usually proposals as well. The placement would support the system engineers and at times project managers on several projects and if possible proposals as well. Tasks will include any or all of the following:

  • Mission analysis;
  • Requirements analysis;
  • Support to system architecture definition (satellite accommodation, mechanical architecture, Propulsion, Thermal);
  • Performance analysis;
  • Budget preparation;
  • Support with proposal preparation, including creating and presenting winning arguments and documentation;
  • Preparation and delivery of presentations and documentation;
  • Participation to meetings with customers;
  • Interaction with Airbus colleagues in other countries.

Requirements

Our placements are open to Undergraduates only. Therefore it is mandatory for candidates to be an undergraduate for the whole duration of the placement. Please inform your graduation date on your application.

Your application should include a CV along with a Cover Letter outlining your motivation and suitability for the role.

Qualifications

  • Studying towards a degree in Aerospace Engineering, Physics or similar subjects.
  • Interest in working in the space industry, with experience from previous placements or university projects will be a plus;
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office and Google Workspace;
  • Experience with CAD, MATLAB or programming may be advantageous;
  • Curiosity and Flexibility;
  • Team player;
  • Proficient oral and written communication skills;
  • Analytical & joined-up thinking.

SECURITY CLEARANCE

You will be subject to a BPSS (Baseline Personnel Security Standard) check. You may also need to gain UK SC-level Security Clearance or Export Control, depending on the role.
