Job Responsibilities:

  • Support local operational management to ensure compliance of performed activities and risks are assessed and controlled.
  • Investigate work-related incidents effectively and request specialist support as required.
  • Act on behalf of the Head of Business to implement EHS policies and procedures, maintaining local risk register, ensuring all work activities have suitable risk assessments, and developing targeted risk-reduction, environmental and emergency management plans.
  • Lead accident investigations and root cause analyses to provide clear improvement recommendations; monitor management actions and track progress of local EHS improvement initiatives.
  • Report to and cooperate with the central EHS team on strategy, policy, and professional development.
  • Compile, maintain, and provide statutory records, local performance data, and indicators.
  • Produce and support implementation of local procedures, method statements, and systems mandated by legislation or policy.
  • Provide EHS support and representation during introduction of new plant, equipment, and work methods.
  • Facilitate effective communication of EHS matters through the local management structure; brief management, Trade Union Safety Representatives, and others on process changes; work in partnership with local TU Safety Representatives.
  • Facilitate monthly EHS review meetings involving senior management and employee representatives, attend central EHS steering group meetings.
  • Deliver 'Toolbox Talk' training sessions and serve as local point of contact for EHS issues, inductions, visitors, insurers, and enforcement agencies.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of a NEBOSH Health & Safety certificate or equivalent.
  • Experience in an environmental health and safety role and manufacturing environment.
  • Working knowledge of applicable legislation guidance and best practice.
  • Proven record of working within formal EHS management systems (including ISO14001), with direct experience in risk assessments, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and leading accident investigations from root cause analysis to remedial action.
