Reporting to the Head of Energy & Sustainability, this specialist role is critical for driving operational strategies, engineering efficiencies, and supporting sustainable infrastructure projects concerning both Energy and Water across the Filton and Newport sites.
The successful candidate will use their expertise and strategic vision to develop and deploy roadmaps, oversee supplier contracts, and inform capital investments. This role ensures robust compliance with regulations and standards while translating Airbus's decarbonization and sustainability objectives into measurable realities at the site and national level.
HOW YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE TO THE TEAM:
- Develop and oversee operational strategies within the Energy and Water scope at the Facility Management level, managing performance across national and site-specific perimeters.
- Shape long-term corporate strategy by contributing to target setting, Operational Plan (OP) definitions, Master Plan Reviews (MPR), the Airbus Flight Path, and site master plans.
- Establish and execute clear technical roadmaps, including digital metering and project implementation roadmaps.
- Propose, coordinate, and lead Energy and Water saving initiatives, from initial feasibility studies, energy audits, and cost-benefit analyses through to implementation.
- Design and oversee the installation of energy-efficient technologies and renewable energy systems (e.g., solar PV, industrial heat pumps). Monitor and verify efficiency targets at the delivery/commissioning stage.
- Actively manage Energy Performance Contract (EPC) execution, driving accountability and performance with suppliers and contractors.
- Identify and evaluate engineering opportunities for energy and resource savings, focusing on the optimization of HVAC systems, lighting, compressed air, water and building management systems (BMS).
- Collect, report, and analyze energy and water consumption data. Ensure data accuracy and availability for internal and external corporate reporting and audits while driving the associated digitalization of energy management tools.
- Monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and Energy Performance Indicators (EnPIs) for the site perimeter. Build data-driven consumption forecasts based on changing industrial assumptions and project timelines.
- Anticipate, evaluate, and ensure absolute site compliance with regulations, environmental standards (e.g., ISO 50001, ISO 14001) and mandatory audits.
- Provide data and engineering guidance to support OpEx/CapEx budgets, formulate business cases, and validate capital investments.
- Oversee site-level delivery point billing validation and manage complex tenant utility re-billing to ensure accurate financial cost-recovery across the property portfolio.
- Interface with internal and external stakeholders, including facilities management, production, procurement, senior management, and transnational peers.
- Investigate, benchmark, and share emerging clean technologies, industry trends, and engineering best practices to keep Airbus at the forefront of industrial decarbonization.
- Directly manage physical Energy and Water utility delivery points across the facility footprint.
- Support team Program Management Office (PMO) activities and governance structures as called upon to support seamless department execution when required.
ABOUT YOU:
- Extensive experience and strong track record within large-scale industrial manufacturing, aerospace, or complex facility management environments. Proven delivery of measurable energy reduction initiatives.
- Direct expertise in optimizing heavy HVAC, industrial processes, automated building controls (BMS), and managing physical energy/water delivery points.
- Engineering experience with the installation, scaling, and handover of solar PV, heat pumps, metering or water conservation systems.
- Experience executing Energy Performance Contracts (EPCs), writing technical RFPs, and steering site Master Plans or Operational Plans (OP).
- Proficiency in energy management software/data tools to track EnPIs. Proven ability to ensure compliance with ISO 14001/50001.
- Ability to act as a senior technical focal point, translate complex data into presentations for senior management, and participate in multi-disciplinary teams.
