Join Airbus Belfast as a Senior Project Engineer (Stress) to direct the overarching structural integrity, airworthiness strategy, and regulatory compliance across our cutting-edge aircraft development programs. In this pivotal role, you will provide technical and commercial leadership to teams of core and subcontract stress engineers, driving the design, development, and certification of optimized composite and metallic airframe structures. You will establish enterprise-wide modelling standards, govern critical structural test campaigns, and resolve high-level manufacturing escalations to ensure all aircraft meet the highest safety and certification requirements.

HOW YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE TO THE TEAM:

  • Provide technical and commercial leadership to teams of core and subcontract stress Engineers working on Structural Stress analysis of composite and Metallic Structures for Static Strength and Fatigue and Damage tolerance.
  • Lead all stress activities to support design development and certification activities.
  • Responsible for project technical definition, planning and budget.
  • Interact with customer and certification authorities to ensure compliance with customer technical requirements and certification regulations.
  • Responsible for project oversight to ensure all technical requirements are met and budget/schedule adherence.
  • Review and approval of Drawings, DDS and certification reports to meet both technical specification and Certification requirements.
  • Liaise with other engineering disciplines (Design, Loads, Materials, Manufacturing and Test Engineers).
  • Take a leadership role in internal and customer design reviews to deliver optimized airframe structure design that complies with certification requirements.
  • Lead in development and certification testing specification and test results assessments.

ABOUT YOU:

It is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure that sufficient detail is provided to demonstrate how they meet essential job criteria, as this alone will be used for vetting purposes.

Essential:

  • A BSc/BEng degree with a minimum of 3 years' relevant stress engineering experience (must include management or project management responsibilities). OR: a relevant engineering qualification, such as HNC or HND and a minimum of 5 years' relevant stress engineering, management/project management experience.
  • Proven Track Record in technical leadership of stress analysis for sizing of primary A/C structure in both Metallic and Composites materials.
  • Experienced in Stress Analysis using classical methods and Finite element Analysis for composite and metallic material.
  • Should hold a previous delegation for stress approval of drawings and certification reports.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work independently and under pressure to achieve global project milestones.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to interact effectively with Engineers and all levels.

Desirable:

While applicants only need to meet the essential criteria, relevant desirable experience within your specific discipline may be used to shortlist candidates. Given the specialised nature of these roles, you are not expected to meet every item listed below.

  • Statics: Previous experience in Airbus stress methods for static and Composite structures including ISAMI. Has held previous Airbus Delegation on all A/C programs including legacy Bombardier C-Series of the A220. Experience in sizing of the main structural components of commercial aircraft wings. Previous experience of working with supplier and ESP (Engineering Service Provider) Teams. Experience in development of Structural Certification Test Requirements.
  • Fatigue & Damage Tolerance: Experience in development of fatigue spectrum using Bombardier Goliath tools. Experience in development of fatigue spectrum using Airbus ISAMI Tools. Development of NASGRO stress models for damage tolerance analysis. Have held previous delegation of Legacy Bombardier C-Series/A220 or Airbus DOS delegation.
  • Finite Element Modelling: Experience in development of Global and Local/Detailed Finite Element Models for Aircraft development and certification. Good working knowledge of Airbus Finite Element Modelling rules. Proven track record of FEM validation to comply with Airbus and Certification Requirements. Validation of Finite Element Model results against certification test results.
