Airbus Helicopters is the world's largest helicopter manufacturer, and the company's site at Oxford Airport is Britain's civil helicopter hub. AHUK offers considerable experience in helicopter sales, bespoke completions, maintenance, and spares support. Its in-house engineering capabilities include design, customisation, installation, flight-testing, and certification, as well as technical support, maintenance, training, and the supply of spares for civil and military applications.

Choosing one or more years of an apprenticeship is a unique opportunity to combine the knowledge gained during your studies with hands-on application in a challenging professional environment. The Airbus team will train and support you throughout your apprenticeship, helping you grow and evolve.

Hosted within the AHUK Commercial Team, you will work under the management and direction of the Export Control Officer, who will help you to identify your professional objectives and support you in the development of your skills. No prior experience in Export Control is required, and full onboarding and training will be provided.

As a Commercial and Export Control Apprentice, you will immerse yourself in the dynamic world of business development and sales, providing crucial operational support to our dedicated Commercial Team. In this role, you will gain hands-on experience by assisting with the preparation of commercial proposals, managing customer data, and supporting contract management processes. You will liaise closely with cross-functional departments and external stakeholders, developing a deep understanding of our product portfolio and market strategy.

Strategic Export Control is a highly critical part of AHUK's business, ensuring the compliant export and transfer of military and dual-use goods in accordance with UK and US legislation. Export Control is a small but growing arena, offering excellent opportunities for career development.

You will interface with all levels within AHUK and the wider Airbus organisation, from the shop floor through to Senior Management. The role provides excellent career development potential as a result of the detailed product and business knowledge gained within the wider Airbus organisation. Execution of the role may involve some travel to other Airbus locations (predominantly France and Germany) as well as supplier and customer locations.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Export control licensing applications and archiving: Preparation and drafting of licence applications.
  • Process writing and guides: Supporting the creation of guides on various export control topics (e.g., end-user statement procedures).
  • Training and awareness: Supporting the creation of training materials related to Export Control activities and monitoring the effectiveness of these training initiatives using online surveys.
  • Tools and systems: Deploying tools and processes, and providing support to the Export Control Team's intranet webpage.
  • Compliance monitoring: Monitoring AHUK export control activity.
  • Auditing: Preparation and undertaking of internal audits.
  • Government reporting: Preparation and submission of licence returns to the UK Government authority.
  • Issue resolution: Investigating potential breaches of export control regulations and developing solutions following disclosures.

Essential Experience & Skills:

  • Analytical and writing skills.
  • Team spirit, adaptability, and intellectual curiosity.
  • An interest in regulatory topics, knowledge transfer activities, and operational tasks.
  • Proficiency in the Google suite and standard IT tools.
  • Language: Advanced/Fluent English.

Desirable Experience & Skills:

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interface with varying levels of management.
  • Language: Fluent French.

Additional Requirements & Security Clearance

  • Right to Work: It is AHUK policy to require all applicants to demonstrate they have the right to remain and to work in the UK.
  • Security Clearance: Due to the nature of this position, you will require DBS Security Clearance and be eligible for SC clearance. Airbus Helicopters UK will support you with this process.

Our Selection Process

The manager will organise interviews and discussions with the shortlisted candidates before selecting the final candidate for the apprenticeship.
