Airbus Protect is a multidisciplinary Engineering Consultancy, specialising in Sustainability, Safety and Cyber technologies. We have an exciting opportunity to support the wider Airbus business in the development of aircraft and the fuel that will drive our Net Zero ambitions. We are currently looking for an Aerospace Fuel Systems Design Engineer with experience in either Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF) or fuel sciences to join our Airbus Protect Sustainability Team in Filton. The immediate role is a Consulting R&T position, working with the Fuel Sciences department in Airbus Commercial.
Responsibilities
- Assess the impact on the future aircraft fuel system design (and interfacing systems) when operating with SAF, and support the development of future fuels that will power it.
- Engage in internal interfacing with Engineers, Certification Specialists and Procurement, and external interfaces such as supplier and vendor management.
- Lead and support the management and completion of deliverables to the customer to meet project milestones per the Systems Development Process and Project lifecycle.
- Support and/or lead Project Management activities to meet deliverable targets.
- Support phase reviews and Validation & Verification activities to ensure safety and technical adequacy.
- Author technical reports, including design drivers, architectures, and test results.
- Support the development of Certification standards and new system architectures and equipment for a future aircraft.
- Be adaptable to work on projects beyond the Fuel Systems and aircraft domain, including bid activities and broader Sustainability work portfolio.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related aviation systems discipline.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience, ideally supporting Aircraft Fuel system design activities.
- Comprehensive knowledge of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) or fuel chemistry and its application within the aerospace industry, including Regulations & Standards.
- Knowledge of systems engineering including requirements management and Validation & Verification through to certification is welcome.
- Experience in Life Cycle Assessment of SAF is desirable.
- Experience of Project Management is desirable.
- Strong ability to lead and manage a project team (e.g., Work Package management).
- Team player, collaborative, customer-centric, with good communication and negotiation skills.
- Autonomous, curious, proactive, rigorous, with great attention to detail.
- Fluent in English (verbal and written).
Additional Information
This role also requires you to use your skills and be adaptable to work on projects beyond the immediate scope in the Fuel Systems domain. You may be required to support Airbus Protect's wider work portfolio in the Sustainability Domain. Future opportunities may include working beyond the initial scope on other systems or platforms (e.g., ZEROe, Landing Gear, Cyber) or other specialisms (such as Safety or Sustainability).
