Senior Design Engineer – A220 Wing Engineering

Role Overview

Senior Design Engineer responsible for leading and developing the wing structure design function within the A220 Wing Engineering team.

The role requires strong technical expertise, leadership in design quality and process improvement, and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to deliver solutions that meet programme, airworthiness and cost targets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop the design engineer team, providing coaching, career development and performance support.
  • Manage the overall quality and technical content of design work, ensuring compliance with Design Quality Assurance Criteria.
  • Define, deliver and enable technical studies, trades and investigations to produce technical solutions aligned with design methods and procedures.
  • Identify, manage and deliver change through Mod openings, Design for Manufacture (DFM) releases and Stage 3 Closure of Mods on time, within cost and quality limits.
  • Support cross‑functional integration to achieve right‑first‑time delivery and milestone attainment.
  • Lead internal and external design teams and own Lean Engineering initiatives, focusing on Right First Time and Lead Time Reduction.
  • Champion new technologies and processes, ensuring lessons learned are captured and disseminated.
  • Organise and govern design and maturity reviews in accordance with company policies, processes and practices.
  • Communicate with key stakeholders, producing reports and presentations for Chief Engineers, Airworthiness, Senior IAW and programme leadership.
  • Required Qualifications and Experience
  • Proven track record leading design or project teams in a technical engineering environment.
  • Experience managing complex, multi‑value projects and achieving delivery within time, cost and quality targets.
  • Strong skill set in Catia V5, Enovia and PLM tools, with Design Signatory authority.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence decisions across a network of stakeholders and customers.
  • Excellent communication, risk management and decision‑making skills.
  • Interest in continuous improvement, new technology adoption and process optimisation.
