Airbox Systems protects lives by delivering mission‑critical software to emergency responders and first‑response teams.

What this role is about:

As the Senior Product Designer you will own the user experience and design quality across the Airbox platform, modernise the core mission‑critical product, and lead the design of prototypes for new markets.

What you’ll do:

  • Product Design:
    • Design to Development: Create a Figma ecosystem that provides clear, implementable blueprints for engineers working in .NET MAUI environments.
    • Product Modernisation: Lead the refinement of the current platform, modernising UI, decluttering legacy workflows, and reducing mental load for users.
    • New Product Design: Provide the visual and interaction blueprint for new product launches, prioritising a modern, high‑margin aesthetic.
    • Design Decision Support: Provide design insight and evidence to inform product decisions, ensuring user needs and frontline realities are represented.
    • Design Iteration: Partner with Product to evaluate released designs through user feedback and operational learnings.
  • Discovery & User Research:
    • Field Observation: Conduct regular field observations with users such as Police, Fire, and HEMS crews to ground design decisions in frontline reality.
    • User Advocacy: Translate high‑stress environmental factors (vibration, low light, gloved use, high cognitive load) into actionable design requirements.
    • Rapid Prototyping: Lead continuous discovery for new products, using rapid prototyping to validate market fit and user delight.
    • Continuous Discovery: Foster and promote a culture of prototyping to test product market fit in new markets.
  • Design Leadership & Execution:
    • Design Standardisation: Guide the transition from ad‑hoc UI solutions to reusable components, ensuring feasibility and maintainability.
    • Mentorship: Guide Product Owners and Engineers to consider design implications early in delivery.
    • Prioritisation: Apply a disciplined approach to prioritisation, balancing reliability on the current platform with contemporary interfaces for new products.

About You:

  • Highly Experienced Product Designer with a track record of designing complex, data‑heavy interfaces in B2B, GovTech, or mission‑critical environments.
  • Advanced UX/UI proficiency, encompassing deep UX research and high‑fidelity UI execution in Figma.
  • Field researcher with experience in high‑pressure operational environments.
  • Comfortable working in evolving environments, mature design processes, and scaling teams.
  • Pragmatic design mindset, prioritising clarity over aesthetic in crisis.
  • Technical understanding to collaborate with Engineering on component reusability and mobile constraints.
  • Stakeholder management skills, able to align with senior engineers, leaders, and customers.
  • Strong communicator and listener, capable of explaining design choices to stakeholders.

What we offer:

  • Opportunity to work with a passionate team towards a shared ambitious goal.
  • Dynamic, flexible, and fun scale‑up environment.
  • 26 days holiday per year plus public holidays.
  • Private medical cover with Bupa for all colleagues.
  • Pension scheme with up to 6% matching contribution.
  • Up to 20 Nomad Working Days per annum.
  • Electric Car Scheme.

Flexible & Hybrid Working:

You can work from home or the office – we provide flexible core hours and two mandatory town‑hall days in spring and autumn.

Requirements:

  • Clearance: Ability to pass NPPV3 clearance – must have resided in the UK for the last 3 years.
  • Willingness for regular travel across the country to meet with end users and stakeholders.
