We are seeking a Senior Bookkeeper to join our Finance team on a permanent basis. Based in Leighton Buzzard with the flexibility to work in a hybrid pattern, this role will provide day-to-day financial accuracy and oversight, ensuring our books are maintained to the highest standards. The Senior Bookkeeper will support month-end close, reconciliations, payroll checks, and VAT returns, while acting as a key contact for financial queries across the business.

What You’ll Do

• General Ledger & Reconciliations
• Maintain accurate ledgers, journals, and reconciliations (bank, control accounts, intercompany).
• Ensure accruals and prepayments are correctly processed.
• Accounts Payable & Receivable Oversight
• Review and approve supplier invoices, payment runs, and credit control processes.
• Monitor aged debtor/creditor reports and support cashflow forecasting.
• Compliance & Reporting
• Support VAT returns, PAYE/NIC submissions, and other statutory compliance.
• Assist with year-end audit preparation, liaising with external accountants.
• Ensure compliance with UK accounting standards and Airbox’s internal policies.
• Payroll & Expenses
• Oversee monthly payroll submissions and employee expense claims.
• Reconcile payroll journals to ensure accuracy.
• Management Support
• Provide accurate financial reports to support business decisions.
• Identify process improvements and strengthen financial controls.
• Act as a senior point of contact for finance queries across the business.

Skills, Knowledge & Experience

• Minimum 5 years’ bookkeeping/accounting experience, ideally in a senior or supervisory role.
• Part-qualified or qualified by experience (AAT, ACCA, CIMA desirable).
• Strong working knowledge of Xero, Sage, or similar accounting software.
• Excellent understanding of VAT, payroll, and UK financial regulations.
• High attention to detail, accuracy, and organisational skills.
• Confident communicator, able to liaise across teams and explain finance clearly.
• Experience in a fast-paced or scale-up environment is advantageous.
