Trainee Asbestos Laboratory Analyst – Pathway to becoming a Qualified Asbestos Laboratory Analyst

Location: Essex (Site-Based)

Salary: £24,784.50 rising to £26k upon successful sign off

AEC are looking to grow our Essex based lab team and bring in a new Trainee Asbestos Lab Analyst. In this role you will undergo a thorough 12 week training program within our Essex Office.

This course is designed for you to become a fully qualified Asbestos Laboratory Analyst, upon the completion of which you will be prepared and required to pass your BOHS P401 exam. The training requires hard work, dedication, and revision. Once qualified, the core responsibility of the laboratory analyst is to analyse bulk samples for asbestos content.

Working within a team, the lab analyst will be expected to analyse 60 bulk samples per day once qualified and experienced.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Preparing samples for analysis.
  • Laboratory analysis of bulk samples for asbestos content, using polarised light microscopy.
  • Re-analysis of lab samples to ensure quality standards are met.
  • Liaising with clients with regards to sample results, providing advice and dealing with general queries.
  • Management of workload on a daily basis.
  • Producing reports and certificates detailing the sample analysis findings and then reporting this to clients.
  • Administration duties, as required, including raising purchase orders and completing the review of asbestos survey documents.
  • Carrying out respirator checks to site-staff issued respirators.
  • Attend quarterly staff meetings.

Requirements:

  • Previous laboratory experience (desirable)
  • At least 5 GCSEs, including Maths and English (or equivalent).
  • Reliable, punctual, and well-organised, with a commitment to hard work and learning.
