Role Summary

The role will set the direction of the company Health & Safety and Environment (HSE) policies and procedures, ensuring best practice and compliance with legislation. It will identify and lead all HSE initiatives as required, while supporting the leadership team and company board to set appropriate, measurable HSE targets and strategy. The postholder will deliver high standards of Health & Safety competence across the business to support legal compliance and promote best practice. This includes providing expert guidance, driving consistency in approach, and helping the organisation maintain a strong and proactive safety culture. The role will also ensure appropriate procedures are in place for facilities and related obligations, including fire safety and estate risk assessments, so that the business continues to operate safely and effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure Airband has clearly identified, communicated and implemented the relevant HSE controls.
  • Build on the current processes that are already in place and include responsibility for the survey, design, build, test, assurance of both the fibre and wireless networks including all activities required to connect Customers to the (fibre or wireless) networks.
  • Be the “Process Owner” for the company HSE management systems, processes and forms to ensure the company effectively meets its HSE policy commitments and legal obligations.
  • Ensure best practice, lessons learnt and where appropriate industry initiatives are shared.
  • Chair departmental forums and meetings to ensure consistent focus of HSE to current priorities.
  • Where opportunities are identified, deliver continual improvements to ensure improved HSE.
  • Identify requirements, place contracts and monitor external HSE assistance where required (e.g. Occupational Health support).
  • Be accountable for the reporting and escalations of HSE across Airband: Monitor performance against targets, publishing reports monthly and yearly.
  • Compile and submit company level external awards (RoSPA & BSC) when arrangements are sufficiently mature.
  • Produce regular reports for company board and leadership team.
  • Understand the changing legislation landscape and be a H&S ambassador for Airband outside the Organisation.
  • Ensuring that you monitor changes in legislation and best practice ensuring company remains compliant and at the forefront of best practice.
  • Represent the company on client and industry bodies and working groups.
  • Ensure regular and good relationship with Enforcing Authorities across the geographies in which we operate.
  • Assist and facilitate colleagues with planned risk assessments, provide training support and advice to enable line managers to complete.
  • Where gaps exist identify training needs to the business.
  • Software Management of IAuditor and control, H&S salesforce dashboard.
  • Act as a point of contact providing advice regarding WAH equipment, harnesses championing and driving process improvements and compliance.
  • Conduct audits to ensure the mast, tower and monopole structures across the regions are structurally safe.
  • LOLER WAH PPE equipment is tested and certified with asset register.
  • Record keeping of assets across the business working with a variety of software platforms.
  • Carry out and assist Accident and Incident investigations across the business.
  • Act as a point of contact for fire safety, including panel servicing, audits, and risk assessments, developing and embedding action plans.
  • Assist in day-to-day identification of risks and hazards in Airband premises, by conducting visits and walkarounds.
  • Provide solutions for identified risks, as well as reporting in the appropriate way.

Experience (Essential)

  • Minimum of 5 years proven experience in a similar role
  • Experience working across multiple sites and geographical locations
  • Demonstrable experience of developing, implementing and maintaining HSE policies, procedures and management systems
  • Strong knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation
  • Experience of working in Telecoms or a related industry

Experience (Desirable)

  • Experience delivering health & safety training and toolbox talks
