Airalo is the world’s first and largest eSIM store, helping travellers stay connected in over 200 countries. We’re looking for a Mid‑Level Backend Engineer who can build clean, scalable PHP code and tackle complex backend challenges for our global platform. This is a fully remote position based in Romania, Spain or the UK. You must be legally eligible to work in one of these countries.
On Call
- Participate in our on‑call rotation to maintain 24/7 service reliability.
- Paid rotation: standby fees plus overtime pay.
- No on‑call duties for the first 6 months.
- Guaranteed rest periods and flexible hours after night incidents.
- Rotations are split weekdays versus weekends to avoid fatigue.
Qualifications
- 3‑5 years of professional backend development experience with PHP.
- Experience building applications in Laravel or strong background in Symfony.
- Strong understanding of OOP, interfaces and code modularity.
- Solid knowledge of SQL – indexing, migrations, query optimization.
- Familiarity with Docker and basic CI/CD pipeline troubleshooting.
- Experience with unit and feature testing.
- Proficient in English, able to communicate progress within a remote team.
Bonus
- Familiarity with Redis or Memcached and AWS cloud services.
- Experience with SaaS or Traveltech solutions.
- Experience with eSIM or GSMA technologies.
- Curiosity for distributed systems and scaling.
