Air Products is a world‑leading industrial gases company operating a specialist fleet of cryogenic ADR vehicles across the UK and Ireland. We are seeking a proactive, safety‑focused Workshop Supervisor to lead our on‑site workshop operations in Worcester.
Responsibilities
- This is a hands‑on, working supervisor role, responsible for carrying out and supervising the maintenance and repair of cryogenic vehicles, tanks, and trailers, while leading a team of technicians.
- You will ensure all vehicles are prepared for DVSA, ADR, and other regulatory inspections and maintained to the highest safety and compliance standards.
- You will supervise workshop activities, manage documentation and administrative duties, promote a strong safety‑first culture, and maintain alignment with Air Products procedures, DVSA, HSE, and legislative requirements.
- The role involves maintaining vehicles from 3,500 kg to 44,000 kg GVW and may require occasional travel across the UK and Ireland.
- The ideal candidate will have strong diagnostic and fault‑finding skills, an understanding of electrical and pneumatic systems, and the ability to interpret technical data, schematics, and diagnostic tools.
- Accurate record‑keeping and leadership skills are crucial, along with a dedication to workplace safety and continuous improvement.
- Lead and run day‑to‑day workshop operations, ensuring safe, efficient maintenance and repairs.
- Supervise, provide mentorship, and develop workshop technicians.
- Plan and coordinate servicing, inspections, diagnostics, and defect repairs for ADR vehicles and trailers.
- Ensure compliance with DVSA, ADR, PUWER, LOLER, and company standards.
- Carry out quality checks to ensure vehicles are roadworthy and legally compliant.
- Lead job scheduling to minimise vehicle downtime.
- Maintain accurate maintenance and inspection records.
- Liaise with transport teams, drivers, and external suppliers.
- Handle parts, stock levels, and workshop consumables.
- Promote safety through audits, toolbox talks, briefings, and initiatives for improvement.
- Ensure HSE compliance and lead in‑house BSP activities.
- Act as Permit to Work issuer for workshop activities (training provided).
What We Are Looking For
- Proven experience working with cryogenic systems, including inspection and corrective work.
- Qualified HGV Technician (NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, or equivalent).
- Previous experience as a Workshop Supervisor, Foreman, or Senior Technician within an HGV and/or ADR fleet.
- Strong technical knowledge of HGV systems, diagnostics, and ADR vehicle requirements.
- Good understanding of DVSA regulations, Operator Licence compliance, and safe workshop practices.
- Solid knowledge of Health & Safety legislation, including PUWER, LOLER, COSHH, and manual handling.
- Experience in incident reporting, investigation, and root cause analysis.
- Strong leadership, organisational, and communication skills.
- IT literate, with experience using fleet or workshop management systems.
- Full UK Driving Licence (HGV Class 1 desirable; ADR licence advantageous).
