We are currently recruiting a Pressure Systems Engineer to join our European team, based in Chertsey. The pressure systems team provide on-going pressure system and mechanical integrity support for Air Products operating facilities in the Europe. The scope of pressure system equipment includes amongst others Pressure Vessels, Columns, Heat Exchangers, Fired Equipment, Storage Tanks, Piping and Safety Relief Devices.
This position will be responsible for providing pressure systems support to facilities owned and operated by Air Products, primarily in the UK and Ireland region. This position will interface with operations, maintenance, engineering, metallurgy, and 3rd party engineering firms to address fixed equipment engineering challenges in our air separation, hydrogen and other industrial gas facilities. The engineer will be required to provide support, which includes specialist mechanical integrity support for troubleshooting, inspection, technical evaluations, equipment assessments & repair, fitness for service evaluations and design engineering reviews.
The role requires understanding of key engineering principles to troubleshoot equipment issues and resolve them effectively. The role will include equipment inspection, repair and maintenance activities. Key responsibilities will be to ensure the safe, regulatory compliant, efficient, and reliable operation of pressure systems equipment.
As the Pressure Systems Engineer you will:
Provide technical expertise on piping, vessel and heat exchanger systems in support of continued operation of the plant. The key drivers being safety, compliance, reliability and plant availability.
- Develop Mechanical Integrity Program for periodic inspections that ensures safe, regulatory compliant, reliable and efficient operation. This includes assessing deterioration and failure mechanisms and developing inspection strategies for pressure equipment and liaise with local authorities.
- Perform (preferred), review or approve engineering calculations and/or work with the AP Engineering Organization and 3rd party engineering contractors to implement design changes to pressure vessels and piping.
- Perform (preferred), review or approve engineering calculations and/or work with the AP Engineering Organization for equipment modifications and fitness for service evaluations.
- Provide design engineering support for Pressure System equipment including development of technical specification, review of mechanical strength calculation and fabrication drawing.
- Develop repair procedures and inspection/test plans for inspection, modifications, repairs, fabrication and installation of pressure equipment. Resolve inspection findings in a way that supports plant availability whilst achieving regulatory compliance and maintaining safety. Where necessary, travel to site to retrieve design data, support execution, plant outages and shutdowns
- Perform end of life assessments and failure investigations. Resolve any issues associated with pressure systems equipment in operating facilities and participate in failure/root cause investigations. As required, implement recommendations and corrective actions.
- Recommend and provide guidance on existing and new technologies associated with the inspection of pressurized systems (e.g. Advanced Ultrasonics, Shear Wave, Eddy Current, Acoustic Emissions, drone use) to enhance the cost-effective way in which the mechanical integrity of the plant is maintained.
- The Pressure Systems Engineer will work closely with other Pressure Systems Engineers, Inspectors, Plant Management, Maintenance teams, Project and others as required. The day-to-day priorities will be set in agreement with the Manager Pressure Systems.
What we are looking for?
- Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
- Sufficient experience working with an oil and gas, chemical or power company (specific experience on Pressure Systems in Oil&Gas/ Chem/Air Separation/ Power industries and working in a Pressure Systems or Inspection or design department would be an advantage).
- Working knowledge of Pressure Vessel & Piping (e.g. ASME, RToD, EN, GB and ANSI) codes for design, inspection, and repair.
- Good written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills in English across all levels.
- Have current driving licence and passport
- A good understanding of inspection requirements according UK and other European regulations
- European travel will be required.
