We are looking for a HGV automotive vehicle Technician based in Walkden. As an HGV automotive vehicle Technician, you will perform routine maintenance, repairs, and diagnostics for various vehicles and trailers at our Walkden site. This role offers the opportunity to develop expertise in cryogenic vehicle maintenance, supporting your path to becoming an Automotive/Cryogenic Vehicle Maintenance Technician. On-the-job training will be provided to enhance your skills in servicing cryogenic delivery systems.

The role involves maintaining, repairing, and inspecting vehicles and systems with cryogenic components, ensuring safety, efficiency, and regulatory compliance. The ideal candidate will have experience in heavy goods vehicle and trailer maintenance, inspection, and repair, with a commitment to high operational standards. Training will be provided to develop into an Automotive/Cryogenic Vehicle Maintenance Technician.

As a qualified professional, you will be vital for ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient fleet operations across the UK and Ireland. The position is primarily based in Walkden, with potential work at Carrington and other locations, including roadside or vendor premises, involving UK and Ireland travel.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on vehicles (GVW ranging from 3,500kg to 44,000kg) and trailers.
  • Adhere to standards set by the UK Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) and the Health and Safety Executive.
  • Understand and apply the DVSA Goods Vehicle Inspection Manual and Defect Categorization manual.
  • Accurately document maintenance activities using paper and electronic systems.
  • Identify and rectify equipment defects, utilizing investigative and diagnostic skills.
  • Interpret technical data, schematic diagrams, and diagnostic guides.
  • Use diagnostic systems for fault finding and programming.
  • Follow company procedures, including risk assessments, to ensure safety.

  • Time-served apprenticeship or certification in mechanical engineering or automotive technology; degree preferred.
  • Experience in HGV/PSV vehicle maintenance or similar technical roles.
