Location: UK. Reporting to: VM Team Lead.

Job Purpose

As a Cyber Security Engineer, you will be an instrumental team member in the delivery of a number of Air IT’s managed cyber security services within our Vulnerability Management Team. You will collaborate with multiple vendors and work with a variety of tools and systems to deliver our vulnerability management programme. You will help with the discovery and analysis of vulnerabilities as well as implementing and coordinating the remediation efforts across our customers. You will be part of a supportive team, working alongside other professionals who are also passionate about cyber security and continuous learning. You will have opportunities to contribute to the development of current operations as well as the shaping of new innovative service offerings.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Vulnerability Management: Prioritise vulnerabilities based on their likelihood of exploitation and the severity of their business impact. Where needed, collaborate with internal and external teams and stakeholders to coordinate the remediations of the vulnerabilities for both managed customers and one-off projects.
  • Auditing: Conduct regular audits and assessments to ensure compliance with security and compliance standards, regulations, and best practices such as Cyber Essentials.
  • Customer Onboarding and System Configurations: Carry out necessary installations and configurations to onboard new customers to receive managed security services such as vulnerability and patch management.
  • Process: Improve existing practices by effective documentation and streamlining processes where possible.
  • Client Communication: Communicate clearly and timely with customers and stakeholders alike, regarding service requests, vulnerabilities and remediation, using a variety of different methods.
  • Continuous Learning and Knowledge Sharing: Stay up to date with the latest changes in cyber threats as well as security best practices. Support customers and colleagues with your cyber security expertise, offering guidance and solutions where needed.

Qualifications, Knowledge, and Experience

  • A keen interest in cyber security; evidence or examples of this will be viewed favourably.
  • Experience managing network infrastructures.
  • Experience with Microsoft and Linux operating systems.
  • Familiarity with Virtualisation Technologies such as Hyper‑V and VMware.
  • Good working knowledge of network devices such as firewalls and switches.
  • Knowledge of relevant cyber security standards such as Cyber Essentials.
  • Ability to organise own workload and prioritise tasks on evolving business requirements.
  • Strong logical and methodical approach, especially under pressure.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, able to explain technical concepts to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Literacy and numeracy skills (e.g. GCSE Maths and English or equivalent).
  • Ability to commute to an Air IT office as required by our hybrid working policy.
  • Prior experience in the cyber security industry.
  • Experience in vulnerability scanning, vulnerability management and patch management.
  • Working knowledge of vulnerability scanners such as Qualys or Nessus.
  • Solid understanding of Common Vulnerability Scoring Systems (CVSS) and how they are used.
  • Experience monitoring and assessing security risks and vulnerabilities and providing recommendations for remediation.
  • Experience in writing scripts in Powershell or similar.
  • Relevant degree or certifications.
