Overview
Aion Clinic is a leading provider of ketamine-assisted therapy (KAT), offering cutting-edge mental health treatments for individuals with treatment-resistant depression and related conditions. We are currently looking for an experienced Consultant Psychiatrist to provide cover for weekend clinical services on a flexible, self-employed basis. This bank-style role is ideal for practitioners seeking purpose-driven, impactful work within a supportive and forward-thinking team. This role focuses on prescribing, assessment, and clinical oversight, contributing to safe and effective delivery of our psychedelic-assisted treatment model.
Key Responsibilities
- Prescribing: Write and submit patient prescriptions to the dispensing pharmacy in line with treatment protocols and legal requirements.
- Medical Assessments: Conduct thorough psychiatric and physical assessments for prospective patients, documenting treatment recommendations in line with NICE and clinic protocols.
- Dosing Supervision: Be available to be on-site during weekend treatment sessions to supervise the clinical team (nurses and therapists), advise on dosing decisions, and respond to any clinical emergencies. Can also be done remotely.
- Controlled Drug Oversight: Ensure robust medicines management for ketamine and other controlled drugs, including safe prescribing, audit trails, and compliance with the Misuse of Drugs Act (1971).
- Clinical Governance: Attend multidisciplinary meetings and contribute to clinical decision-making, safeguarding discussions, and reflective practice.
- Leadership Support: Provide clinical oversight to nurses and therapists on shift, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and best practice standards.
About You
We’re looking for a qualified and confident consultant psychiatrist who is:
- Full registration with the GMC with a licence to practise, and inclusion on the Specialist Register in Psychiatry (or equivalent CCT)
- Skilled in clinical risk assessment, medication management, and patient-centred care planning
- Comfortable working autonomously within a multidisciplinary team in a CQC-regulated setting
- Calm under pressure and confident in managing clinical emergencies
- Holds professional indemnity insurance and operates via a Limited Company
- ILS trained and up to date with mandatory training
Desirable but not essential
- Experience in ketamine or psychedelic-assisted therapy
- Working knowledge of controlled drug prescribing and administration audits
