OXFIDA (formerly Aioi R&D Lab – Oxford) is an AI R&D company based in Oxford, on a mission to harness AI to understand, predict, and manage risk, helping build a safer, more resilient society.
We sit at the intersection of academia and industry, working with Oxford's professors and researchers alongside commercial partners, and combining that expertise with real-world risk data at global scale to turn frontier research into AI that actually ships rather than just gets published.
Our work spans AI for insurance underwriting and claims, AI risk governance, privacy-preserving technologies for agentic AI, and quantum optimisation, alongside partnership projects on nature and supply chains and the emerging challenges nobody's solved yet.
We build AI products and solutions for insurers, businesses, and public-sector organisations worldwide, and run innovative research projects that push these technologies further, helping people make better decisions in an uncertain world.
See risk clearly.
The role?
We are looking for a Product Designer dedicated to our AI Risk Governance Product, which is currently in development towards launch.
The product helps organisations turn fragmented AI system information into risk insights and practical mitigation actions through automated information gathering from documents, incident- informed risk analysis and actionable recommendations.
Working with product managers, engineers and AI and governance specialists, you will refine the user experience, deliver implementation-ready designs and drive improvements through launch and beyond.
Fluency in both Japanese and English is essential for collaboration with colleagues, customers and partners.
Responsibilities
- Own UX and UI design for the AI Risk Governance Product, from user research and prototyping through to implementation and ongoing improvement.
- Design intuitive workflows for automated AI system information gathering from documents, incident-informed risk analysis and actionable mitigation recommendations.
- Shape early product concepts from ambiguous problems and research insights, exploring alternative directions before converging on a solution.
- Experience designing complex workflows and information hierarchies, including configurable or admin-facing functionality.
- Identify shared user needs and workflow patterns across enterprise customers and translate them into coherent end-to-end user experiences, distinguishing core workflows from configurable requirements.
- Present complex information clearly, helping users understand findings and take appropriate action.
- Conduct user research and usability testing in Japanese and English, translating findings into product improvements.
- Rapidly build interactive prototypes using AI-assisted tools such as Claude to test ideas and iterate based on feedback.
- Collaborate with product managers, engineers and domain specialists to balance user needs, business priorities and technical feasibility.
- Maintain a consistent, accessible design system, define key interface states and edge cases, review implementation quality with engineers throughout agile development, and communicate design decisions to stakeholders.
- Collaborating with the Product Manager, engineers and infrastructure engineers to establish a smooth end-to-end workflow, from gathering requirements from clients and the Product Manager through to design and implementation, and to define how it is run in practice.
- Knowledge, Experience and Qualifications
Essential
- At least three years of product or UX design experience.
- A portfolio demonstrating user research, interaction design, visual design and delivery of digital products.
- Experience taking products from early concept through to delivery, including information architecture and structuring complex domains.
- Fluency in Japanese and English, both spoken and written, enabling independent user research, workshop facilitation, presentations and documentation.
- Ability to rapidly build interactive prototypes using AI-assisted tools such as Claude to validate concepts and user flows.
- Experience designing complex workflows or data-rich interfaces, ideally for B2B or enterprise software.
- Proficiency in Figma, including reusable components and design systems.
- Experience conducting and synthesising user research and usability testing.
- Strong cross-functional collaboration skills and the ability to explain design decisions to technical and non-technical audiences.
- A degree in Design, Human–Computer Interaction or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
Desirable
- Experience with AI-enabled products, risk management, compliance or other regulated domains.
- Experience designing multilingual products or data visualisations.
- Familiarity with accessibility and inclusive design practices
