Role Overview

As Head of Finance, you will migrate, develop, establish, and maintain AIOI R&D Lab’s finance function, including finance policies, processes, controls, system, all financial reporting and governance frameworks.

You’ll work with a talented team of executives, AI researchers, project managers, and group finance teams.

The role is a permanent full time position.

Responsibilities

  • Develop in-house finance function including finance policies, processes, system, and governance frameworks.
  • Statutory Accounts & External Audit Management – Prepare statutory accounts, manage the audit process and auditor relationships, and ensure timely filing of statutory accounts.
  • Financial Reporting – Prepare monthly management accounts and provide financial reporting to the Executive Committee and Board of Directors.
  • Tax Compliance – Prepare and file corporate tax, VAT, and employment tax returns, with support from the Group Tax team.
  • Cash & Bank Management – Manage daily cash transactions and month end control processes, including MMF operations, and oversee bank account administration.
  • Accounts Payable Management – Establish and manage the authorisation matrix, process supplier invoices, and execute payments.
  • Payroll Management – Manage payroll services for UK employees and Employer of Record (Eo R) personnel in coordination with the HR function.
  • Expense Claims Management – Manage employee expense claims and reimbursements.
  • Group Financial Consolidation – Submit financial information for Group financial statement consolidation.
  • Budgeting & Forecasting – Prepare the annual budget and mid-term financial forecasts.
  • R&D Tax Credit Management – Prepare and manage HMRC pre-notification forms and Additional Information Forms (AIF), with support from external consultants.
  • Knowledge, Experience & Qualifications

Essential

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience as a Head of Finance or in an equivalent role at a UK-registered company, with at least 10 years of overall finance experience in the UK.
  • Experience leading the build-out of a finance function from scratch within a startup or VC/PE-backed company environment.
  • Experience leading the development and implementation of financial policies and processes.
  • Required Skills
  • Advanced financial accounting skills, including consolidated financial accounting and tax accounting.
  • Advanced financial modelling skills.
  • Advanced financial reporting capabilities.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.

Desirable

  • CPA, CFA, MBA, or equivalent professional qualification.
  • Experience working in an audit function at a Big Four accounting firm or equivalent.
  • Finance experience within the software sector.
