About the role: Seeking an experienced Legal Counsel to manage our property and litigation matters. The successful candidate will have significant experience in property transactions, debt recovery, and litigation, with the ability to handle complex legal issues, mitigate risk, and support the business in property-related legal matters.
Key Responsibilities:
- Debt Recovery & Litigation
- Issue letters before action and manage debtor recovery processes.
- Handle debtor and guarantor actions, including negotiation and execution of settlement agreements or court proceedings.
- Register legal charges over property and maintain accurate legal records.
- Advise on personal and corporate guarantor actions.
- Conduct and review property searches, planning history, and compliance.
- Identify title defects and review title registers and plans from Land Registry.
- Draft, review, and negotiate legal documents including loan agreements, guarantees, and legal charges.
- Liaise with valuers to produce completed Certificates of Title.
- Ensure borrowers receive appropriate face-to-face independent legal advice (ILA).
Required Skills & Experience:
- Proven experience as a legal advisor in property, litigation, or secured lending matters.
- Extensive experience in property transactions, conveyancing, and debt recovery.
- Demonstrated ability to draft, review, and negotiate complex legal documents.
- Experience identifying legal risks and implementing effective mitigation strategies.
- Excellent analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication, with the ability to clarify complex legal matters for non-legal colleagues.
- High degree of professional ethics, integrity, and judgment.
Qualifications:
- Qualified solicitor with relevant experience in property law and litigation.
- Membership in a relevant professional body (England & Wales) and registered with the SRA and have a practicing certificate issued by the same regulatory body).
