Looking for an organised and proactive Finance Assistant to join our growing international finance team.

This is a hands-on role supporting the day-to-day accounting and payment activities of a multi-entity, cross-border business.

Working remotely with colleagues in both the UK and US, the Finance Assistant will provide key support with bookkeeping, month-end management accounts, reconciliations and payment processing.

The successful candidate will be based in the UK and must be comfortable collaborating with US colleagues, payment providers and banking partners across different time zones.

Key responsibilities

  • Support the preparation of monthly management accounts for the UK and US entities, including the preparation of supporting schedules.
  • Assist with the month-end close process, including preparing accruals, prepayments and routine accounting journals for review.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date accounting records in Xero, including posting invoices, payments and other transactions.
  • Prepare bank, balance-sheet and intercompany reconciliations, investigating and escalating differences promptly.
  • Support the payment process from preparation through to release, ensuring payment instructions are complete, accurate and appropriately authorised.
  • Liaise with payment processors, banking partners and internal teams to resolve payment queries, rejected payments and beneficiary issues.
  • Maintain clear payment records, supporting evidence and approval documentation in accordance with internal controls.
  • Assist with monitoring bank balances, expected payments and short-term cash requirements across the UK and US entities.
  • Support the finance team with audit requests.
  • Maintain organised finance records and respond to routine queries from colleagues, customers and external stakeholders.
  • Provide general administrative and analytical support to the wider finance team as required.
  • Build effective working relationships with colleagues and external stakeholders across the UK and US.
  • Knowledge, skills and experience

Essential

  • Previous experience in a finance, accounts assistant, bookkeeping or payment operations role.
  • Good understanding of basic bookkeeping, double-entry accounting and bank reconciliations.
  • Strong Excel skills and confidence working with transactional data and reconciliations.
  • Excellent attention to detail, particularly when preparing payments and maintaining accounting records.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to follow up queries with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to organise workload, meet deadlines and manage recurring daily and monthly tasks.
  • A proactive approach to identifying and resolving discrepancies.
  • Ability to work effectively and communicate proactively within a remote, cross-border team.
  • Effective team player who is also comfortable working independently and taking ownership of assigned work.
  • Sound judgment and an appropriate control mindset when handling payments and sensitive financial information.
  • Experience using Xero and Salesforce.

Desirable

  • Studying toward AAT, ACCA, CIMA or another relevant accounting qualification.
  • Previous experience preparing or processing high-volume payments.
  • Experience liaising with banks, payment processors or other financial-service providers.
  • Experience in lending, specialty finance, fintech or another financial-services environment
