Road Surfacing Team Leader – AIMCH

We are currently seeking a Road Surfacing Team Leader to join our Scotland Surfacing Team based at the Tarmac Contracting office on the Wright Business Centre in Glasgow. The role involves managing all construction sites, including mobile plant forepersons, operatives and subcontractors.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure all work meets the highest standard and complies with contract specifications.
  • Induct employees and subcontractors onto site; provide daily briefings, toolbox talks and required site induction before work commences.
  • Undertake, review and update site risk assessments prior to starting work.
  • Follow site vacation procedures and take photos as required.
  • Minimise environmental impact during operations.
  • Achieve profitability targets set by the supervisor; propose alternative working methods where beneficial.
  • Minimise material waste and reduce remedial costs.
  • Ensure the client accepts all work at the end of each shift and that the site and parked plant remain safe and secure.
  • Agree completed daily working hours with gang foreperson and subcontractors.
  • Communicate effectively and work as part of a team.
  • Update personal and team training plans, timesheets and site records.

Ideal Candidate / Qualifications

  • Experienced in machine lay asphalt works and knowledgeable in all aspects of surfacing operations, including rollers, pavers, chipping machines and tractors.
  • Flexible proactive working approach, able to think ahead and adapt strategically.
  • Confident working independently and as part of a team with stakeholders and shareholders.
  • Calm under difficult situations, able to make unpopular decisions while explaining the rationale.
  • Drive to initiate improvements and enhance performance; spotting opportunities to develop new ideas.
  • Motivated to build a positive team culture and foster relationships with local operational teams.
  • Strong communication skills; able to influence others to align with goals.
  • Proven analytical thinking; can assess problems, anticipate obstacles and resolve them proactively.
  • Compliant with health and safety policies and proactive in encouraging the same within the team.
  • IT literacy.
