About the Role

This is initially a 6-month fixed-term contract, with the expectation of working an average of 20 hours per week across 3 days.

We are flexible on how these hours are worked and welcome discussions around the working pattern to suit both the successful candidate and the needs of the business.

A day in the life of…

As Painter & Decorator, you will play a key role in maintaining the appearance, safety, and overall presentation of The View Hotel.

Working closely with the Senior Maintenance Engineer, and wider hotel team, you'll be responsible for delivering a proactive painting and decorating programme across guest bedrooms, public areas, meeting and event spaces, back-of-house facilities, and external hotel areas.

This is a hands-on role where no two days are the same.

You'll help ensure our guests enjoy a welcoming, comfortable and well-maintained environment while contributing to the hotel's high standards and reputation.

Key responsibilities include

  • Carrying out planned and reactive painting and decorating works throughout the hotel
  • Completing internal and external decoration projects to a high standard
  • Preparing surfaces and applying paints, coatings, and finishes safely and professionally
  • Working with the Rooms Operations team to coordinate access to guest bedrooms and public areas
  • Supporting preventative maintenance programmes and general maintenance duties as required
  • Assisting Housekeeping by identifying and addressing maintenance and presentation issues within guest rooms
  • Conducting regular checks to ensure hotel facilities are safe, clean, and in excellent condition
  • Supporting contractor supervision in the absence of the Senior Maintenance Engineer
  • Monitoring decorating materials, maintenance supplies, and stock levels
  • Promoting environmental sustainability, energy efficiency, and waste reduction initiatives throughout the hotel
  • Maintaining accurate records of completed works and ongoing projects
  • Ensuring all work areas are left clean, safe, and guest-ready upon completion

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Experience in internal and external painting and decorating
  • Ability to complete decorating and maintenance tasks to a high standard
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
  • Ability to work independently and manage priorities effectively
  • Good organisational and time management skills
  • Flexible approach to working hours and shift patterns
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
  • Good understanding of Health & Safety regulations and safe working practices
  • Excellent communication skills and a guest-focused attitude
  • Willingness to undertake physical duties and work at height when required

Desirable Skills & Qualifications

  • City & Guilds Level 2 in Painting & Decorating or equivalent qualification
  • Basic maintenance qualifications
  • Experience within a hotel, hospitality, or leisure environment
