Ailsa Craig Medical Practice is seeking an enthusiastic and committed Locum GP to join our friendly and supportive team to cover maternity leave for 12 months from August 2026. The role involves 6 sessions per week, including Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, with 1 day on-call per week.

We are a well-established GP practice in Central Manchester serving a patient population of approximately 11,100 patients and operating a total triage model.

Main duties of the job

In accordance with the practice timetable, the post-holder will undertake a variety of duties including:

  • Clinical patient triage
  • Surgery consultations
  • Telephone consultations and queries
  • Visiting patients at home
  • Checking and signing repeat prescriptions
  • Dealing with queries, paperwork, referrals, and correspondence in a timely manner

The post-holder will be expected to make professional, autonomous decisions regarding presenting problems, assess the health care needs of patients, screen for disease risk factors, develop care plans, provide counselling and health education, and maintain accurate consultation notes.

Job responsibilities

The role will involve providing routine GP duties including both telephone and face-to-face consultations for acute and routine appointments. All patient requests are triaged by a duty GP prior to booking. Appointments are scheduled in 15-minute slots, with 12 appointments per session. The successful candidate will manage acute, chronic, and complex conditions in line with GMC and NICE guidance.

  • Evidence of valid medical indemnity and right to work in the UK
  • Experience in primary care managing a range of acute and chronic conditions
  • Excellent clinical, diagnostic, and communication skills
  • Confident in using IT systems and electronic health records
  • Commitment to safe, evidence-based, and equitable patient care
Qualifications
  • GMC registration and inclusion on the National GP Performers List
  • Disclosure and Barring Service Check
