We are looking for a kind, caring, reliable and energetic female Personal Assistant to support an 8-year-old girl, to enjoy fun, safe and meaningful activities in the community.

The young girl has profound autism, global developmental delay, complex epilepsy and additional physical needs. She is non-verbal and uses a wheelchair when she becomes very tired. She enjoys play, outings, sensory activities, music and spending time outdoors. This is an active role that would suit someone who enjoys working with children and is confident supporting a child with complex additional needs.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one support, care and supervision.
  • Support Ella to enjoy outings, play activities and experiences in the community.
  • Understand and respond to her communication, sensory and individual needs.
  • Follow her epilepsy care plan and relevant safety procedures.
  • Support personal care needs, including toileting and changing, as required.
  • Encourage independence and help Ella enjoy new experiences.
  • Maintain constant, close supervision and ensure her safety at all times.

Important Safety Information

She is extremely quick on her feet and can suddenly run off without warning. She has no understanding of danger and may run towards roads. She wears a safety harness when walking outdoors. In soft play centres and activity areas, Ella can move very quickly, so it is essential that the successful applicant is physically fit, active and able to keep up with her and respond quickly to potential dangers. Constant, close supervision is essential at all times.

About You

  • Female, in line with the family’s preference.
  • A driver with access to their own car and a full, valid UK driving licence.
  • Kind, patient, trustworthy and reliable.
  • Active, energetic and confident keeping up with a busy child.
  • Comfortable following care plans and epilepsy safety guidance.
  • Experienced in supporting children with additional needs, although this is not essential as training can be provided.
  • Committed to building a positive, trusting relationship with Ella.
  • Experience of autism, epilepsy or complex needs would be beneficial.

Hours and Pay

The position is for 5 hours per week on Saturday mornings, starting at 9:30am, with potential flexibility by agreement. The rate of pay is £13.45 per hour, with employment provided by the family. The employer will arrange and pay for the required PVG.
