Are you an experienced Senior Payroll Manager that is comfortable operating in an all encompassing and hands on payroll position that is immediately available? We’re partnered with a sustainable and fast-growing software business, trusted by some of the world’s most progressive brands as they look to hire a Payroll Manager on an initial 6-month Fixed Term Contract, with potential to go permanent.

The Role

The Payroll Manager plays a pivotal role within the Group Finance team, owning end-to-end responsibility for the monthly payroll lifecycle across the UK (2) and European payrolls (10). You will ensure accurate, timely pay runs and statutory compliance while driving continuous improvement in payroll processes, systems and reporting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the end-to-end monthly payroll process for the UK and European payrolls, ensuring accurate and timely pay runs
  • Liaise closely with HR and Tax to understand changes to benefits, compensation and policies and ensure correct payroll processing
  • Manage relationships with external payroll providers
  • Act as the subject-matter expert, manage and resolve payroll queries from employees, HR and business stakeholders
  • Provide timely payroll information to the wider Finance team to support month-end close, other reporting and audit requirements
  • Post payroll related journals, accruals and perform reconciliations as required
  • Manage year-end processes, including P11Ds
  • Maintain compliance with statutory, tax and regulatory requirements and manage payroll related queries from tax authorities
  • Assist HR with related statutory reporting and initiatives, such as Gender Pay Gap reporting and compliant with National Minimum Wage
  • Identify opportunities to improve payroll processes, procedures and system integrations, lead continuous improvement and support system upgrades / automations
  • Implement and maintain robust internal controls
  • Manage and develop a Payroll Analyst

The Ideal Candidate

  • Qualified by experience or relevant certification (e.g. CIPP level 5)
  • Minimum 5 years’ payroll leadership in multi-jurisdiction or large corporate settings
  • Subject matter expert in UK payroll legislation, HMRC processes and pensions
  • Proven ability to own relationships with third-party payroll providers
  • Strong stakeholder communicator - HR, Finance, advisors and tax authorities
  • Track record delivering payroll controls and improvement projects
  • Professional, dependable and deadline driven
  • Excellent analytical skills
