Services provided at the hospital include emergency medical care, orthopedic surgeries, maternity, and behavioral health services.
The Radiology Technologist assists physicians and performs radiological, paramedical, and clerical duties required in the care and assistance of patients. Works under the direction of the Radiology Supervisor and physicians. Is primarily responsible for helping with the daily operations of the Radiology department.
Duties:
- Prepares room, equipment, contrast media and materials as needed for procedures.
- Maintains clean and stocked X-Ray procedure room on a daily basis.
- Warms X-Ray equipment daily, and assures equipment is working properly.
- If equipment is not functioning properly, notifies appropriate person.
- Prepares patient for X-ray procedure – explains procedure, transfers patient to examination table, positions patient correctly, and assists patient at end of procedure.
- Sends images to PACS appropriately and verifies all are available for interpretation in a timely manner.
- Performs general clerical and transportation duties when needed to fulfill the workload of the department.
- Practices patient care according to ARMC policy.
- Assists Radiologists during procedures and takes films as requested.
- Knowledgeable in proper sequence of scheduling exams for Radiology department.
- Considers age-related factors in obtaining images or performing diagnostic or therapeutic imaging studies.
- Applies knowledge of age related factors appropriately to patients ranging from pediatrics to geriatrics.
- Regularly accepts additional work during period of low patient activity, and demonstrates a willingness to assist others within the department as requested.
- Maintains confidentiality and privacy of all data, records, forms, reports, and procedures and any other information regarding customer relations of Aiken Regional Medical Centers 100% of the time.
- Must know and implement radiation safety procedures when working with radiation producing equipment 100% of the time.
- Responsible for knowing and maintaining the measurements described in the Universal Protocol policy.
- Responsible for ensuring that patient charges are given to the appropriate person to be entered into the EHR in a timely manner and that the charges are accurate.
- Assists the physician in the response to and management of all emergency situations.
- Operates the portable X-Ray and C-Arm machines to complete imaging in the inpatient and operating room settings.
- Attends all monthly staff meetings unless absent from work or excused by Radiology Supervisor.
- Obtains and correctly documents verbal and telephone orders per facility policy (only applies to ARRT licensed staff).
- Rotates to other imaging departments as needed; participates in holiday and on-call rotation requirements.

Qualifications Requirements:
- Education requirements: Successful completion of a radiological program or equivalent military training
- Work experience requirements: BLS (or obtained within 90 days of employment)
- Required licenses/ certifications/courses: Current ARRT and South Carolina license or Temporary B license issued by SC Radiation Quality Standards Association.
- Required skills, knowledge and abilities: Current RT registration or registration eligible with successful completion within 90 days.
