Salary: £60,000 – £80,000

Were working with a forward-thinking technology-led organisation thats looking to hire a Senior Back End Developer to join one of their high-performing engineering teams. This is a great opportunity for someone who is passionate about building scalable software, enjoys mentoring others, and wants to play a key role in shaping backend architecture within a modern, agile environment.

Responsibilities

  • Youll join a cross-functional product squad, typically made up of Back End and Front-End Developers, QA Engineers, UX Designers, Content Specialists and a Product Manager, with additional support from Architects and Staff Engineers.
  • Each squad owns the full lifecycle of its products, so youll be involved from initial discovery and planning through to build, release and ongoing monitoring. The team works in two-week sprints and follows Agile best practices.
  • As a Senior / Lead Back End Engineer, your role will balance hands-on development with leadership responsibilities. Youll provide technical direction, coach and mentor developers, contribute to architectural decisions, and support multidisciplinary delivery across the squad.
  • Development is centred around a Microservices architecture, with involvement in legacy systems.
  • Beyond squad work, youll be part of the Back End Chapter, collaborating on technology choices, standards, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Required Skills/Experience

  • Strong C# development experience
  • Experience with both .NET Core and .NET Web API
  • Experience of building Microservices in .Net Core
  • Experience using Message Based Architectures
  • Experience using both SQL & NoSQL technologies
  • Experience of API design
  • Cloud development/architecture (Azure)
  • Experience working in an Agile environment (Scrum/Kanban)
  • Knowledge and experience of Unit Testing (xUnit, nUnit)

Desired Skills/Experience

  • Experience of TDD practices
  • DevOps (CI/CD, Pipelines, Infrastructure-as-Code)
  • Experiencing managing small teams of developers
