Purpose of the role: To join a business seeking major expansion and growth into the UK SME segment and underwrite across multi-line package & combined business. Our products cater for shops & salons, leisure and catering, manufacturing & wholesale, property owners, offices, surgeries and commercial combined. This role will report into the Head of Package and CUO for UK SME and will be an important contributor towards AIG’s ambition to be a leading insurer in this segment. The role will work across multi distribution portfolios including those traded via MGA’s, Delegated authority brokers, schemes and e-trade platforms.
We seek someone who has strong Property and Casualty technical expertise in this segment but who also can develop and grow key broker partner relationships and who can contribute towards product design, underwriting appetite and e-traded rules sets.
How you'll make an impact:
- Handle the larger and more complex referrals from our delegated authority partners.
- Act as an internal referral point for technical referrals from the underwriting team.
- Monitor portfolio performance of facilities/schemes/DUA’s assessing both performance against budget, underwriting results and loss trends.
- Support the development of new products and/or product enhancements to drive profitable growth.
- Specifically supporting work to develop our e-trade appetite, risk selection and acceptance rules.
- Become a subject matter expert on the Acturis trading platform and support product development initiatives.
- Conduct regular business reviews with key broker partners and manage external business relationships to achieve desired performance metrics.
- Consider current, emerging and horizon risk topics and develop underwriting guidelines, training materials and “white paper” knowledge content.
- Support the underwriting quality control framework including external audits and internal peer reviews.
- Act as a lead and mentor for junior underwriters.
- Be a key contributor to the SME Package business top line and profitability metrics.
- Comply with key regulatory, conduct and risk management requirements and responsibilities.
What you'll need to succeed:
- A strong Commercial Underwriting background at Company or MGA / UW Agency level.
- Proven underwriting experience in SME Property and Casualty lines essential.
- Capable of handling commercial underwriting referrals from brokers/MGA’s and junior staff with past experience of handling SME and P & C business preferred.
- Experience in schemes or working with delegated authority partners / MGA’s preferred.
- Able to demonstrate experience in portfolio, facility or binder management.
- Experience of working with digital trading platforms such as Acturis.
- Highly numerate with ability to analyse MI and Portfolio performance data and make recommendations to improve or optimise performance.
