Join our team as a Senior Marine Claims Adjuster handling claims for some of the largest and most well-established clients within the Marine industry with an opportunity to build your experience handling a wide variety of claims.

AIG has a broad and extensive underwriting portfolio covering most of the key aspects of Marine, namely Marine Liability, Transport and Logistics and Cargo. We are looking for an adjuster with a good grounding primarily in Marine Liability and/or Logistics and the experience and capability to handle what is predominantly a lead portfolio of claims. Alongside this, there is also opportunity to get involved in and exposure to managing our Cargo book of business.

Working in this team offers a unique opportunity to gain direct exposure managing claims for our large, blue-chip clients as part of our Multinational claims offering. The handling will start from first notification through policy & legal liability assessment, quantum analysis to timely and accurate resolution, whilst mitigating indemnity and expense exposure. You will communicate developments and outcomes as necessary to all key stakeholders (internal and external) and provide a high standard of customer service while adhering to claims handling best practices and legal, regulatory and compliance requirements.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Broad internal and external stakeholder communication where required.
  • Contribute to maintenance of best practice procedures for Marine claims, consistent with global best practices.
  • Handle Marine claims allocated within agreed level of authority limit.
  • Feedback claims trend analysis to the team and internal stakeholders.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with underwriters and other stakeholders relevant to the business such as clients and brokers.
  • Attend claims reviews and travel, as required.
  • Support the more senior adjusters in the team in the handling of larger, more complex claims where required.
  • Provide technical guidance and coaching to more junior, less experienced members of the global Marine claims handling team.
  • Support the UK Head of Marine Claims in claims performance orientated tasks and reporting as required.
  • Support the UK Head of Marine Claims and wider team in ad-hoc projects as required.
  • Assist in managing the day-to-day operational relationship/quality assurance issues with Shared Services where required.
  • Support the wider team with TPA oversight and performance management.
  • Provide thought leadership through training and presentations to both internal and external audiences.

What we are looking for:

  • A good level of experience and knowledge in handling marine liability, third-party cargo or first party cargo claims. All areas are not essential, but general third-party claims experience is preferred.
  • Policy language skills enabling accurate and consistent policy wording interpretation.
  • Experience of using ECF helpful but not essential.
  • A working knowledge of legal / regulatory and litigation / procedural requirements for their line of business.
  • Experience in effectively following up on recommendations from technical claims audits and continuous claim handling improvement.
  • Lateral thinking and the ability to problem solve and develop new ideas to improve working practices.
