About the role

This role is one of the most Senior UW experts and holds the highest levels of UW Authority within International Casualty. This role is responsible for the oversight and underwriting quality of the GL&EL Industry Groups Services & Tech and the stand alone Auto Portfolio within International Casualty. It is the Product Lead for GL, WC/EL and Motor. This role supports International Casualty UW operation, all teams (APAC, EMEA, UK, LAC, Japan and China).

Job Responsibilities

  • Together with Global CUO Casualty and Regional Heads, define, manage and drive the underwriting strategy for the international organisation, with a focus on industries Services Tech but has input into all business within GL, Auto and EL portfolios.
  • Determine the UW authority, UW guidelines and referral process for the assigned Portfolio.
  • Develop and deliver underwriting guidelines within the framework of risk appetite, underwriting appetite, limits management and emerging risks.
  • Represent AIG CUO as a Product Expert offering internal training and speaking externally on Casualty topics.
  • Internal training will be based on close collaboration with Risk Engineering, claims, actuarial and the Underwriting University and external speaking will be done in collaboration with our CBE/Client Broker Engagement teams.
  • Together with the Global CUO and Regional Heads, translate the UW strategy into measurable actions.
  • Foster and drive the execution of underwriting excellence throughout AIG and in the marketplace.
  • Thoroughly and quantitatively analyse the performance of Casualty portfolios.
  • Identify / assess emerging trends and feed insights to strategy setting.
  • Manage analytically modelling changes to strategy, products and 'pro-forma' views of the book.
  • Detailed monitoring standards / quality reviews to assess loss ratios and underwriting results.
  • Establish strong relationships with CUO colleagues in both International and North America to define mutual understanding of topics and to drive effective execution of business model.

What we’re looking for

  • In-depth insurance leadership experience, including referral underwriting experience in Casualty, preferably on an international basis.
  • Previous P&L ownership experience.
  • Fluent in English as well as one additional Asian or European language is a plus.
  • Strategic leadership skills in developing vision, purpose and driving for results.
  • An understanding of end-to-end underwriting processes and how to construct these processes to improve profitability, data capture, efficiency, and compliance.
  • Detailed understanding of casualty actuarial and portfolio management tools.
  • Expert technical underwriting background with experience in International Casualty.
  • Intimate knowledge of policy forms and endorsements.
  • Skilled leader of change; versatile, client focused, results oriented.
  • Demonstrated business savvy, analytical, and quantitative skills.
