How You Will Create An Impact

Reporting to the Chief Investment Officer International, and working in conjunction with SME colleagues based in the US focused on Private and Structured Credit, and Private Equity, the International Head of Alternative Investments will be responsible for the oversight of all Alternative Investments and Structured Credit exposures in AIG’s International Portfolio.

Role

The portfolio to be overseen will focus on alternatives including Private Credit (Investment Grade & High Yield), Structured Credit including CLOs, RMBS, CMBS, ABS, Infrastructure and Private Equity. Working in conjunction with the Head of Private Credit, and Head of Private Equity, the role would encompass the following:

  • Oversee all investment activity in the designated asset classes within the International Portfolio.
  • Be a key participant in establishing the formal external manager oversight process for alternative asset classes.
  • Advise the CIO team on current and future allocation levels given changing market conditions and risk appetite.
  • Make proposals in conjunction with other members of the CIO team, (and other SMEs as appropriate) with respect to external manager selection, market opportunities (including bespoke transactions), relative value and issuance/redemption activity within the designated asset classes, including advising on the annual investment plan and strategic asset allocation.
  • Manage the day-to-day relationships with the investment managers prevalent in the international portfolios, driving effectiveness.
  • Develop regular reporting, meeting cadence and other processes for alternative assets, ensuring appropriate reporting to meet the needs of group, regulated entities and the Regional and Global CIO team.
  • Assist in the establishment and maintenance of performance benchmarks for all external managers in the asset classes as needed.
  • Foster productive relationships with key internal stakeholders including Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) and Finance.
  • Produce materials as needed, and present to various AIG governing committees including local and global Investment Committees and senior management.
  • Liaise with the external managers and co-ordinate all aspects of risk management and required reporting.
  • Collaborate across AIG CIOs and AIG third party investment managers to evaluate emerging credit or risk issues across the portfolio.
  • Utilize AIG platforms (including Aladdin where relevant) to aggregate data and perform internal analysis as needed.
  • Attend investment manager meetings and industry conferences, as appropriate.
  • On scheduled reporting dates, co-ordinate with the external managers to provide the agreed reporting with data to be used by CIOs, ERM, Investment Accounting and any other AIG departments as needed.

What You’ll Need To Succeed

  • Education to at least Bachelor degree level. MBA or CFA preferred.
  • Significant demonstrated experience in investment management or insurance asset management, with a focus on alternative assets.
  • Strong knowledge of risk frameworks, and credit, liquidity and capital constraints of regulated insurance companies.
  • Exceptional communication skills (written and oral) with the ability to infuse the internal investment process with new ideas.
  • Experience with Aladdin preferred although not required.
  • Ability to multi-task across a wide number of activities and multiple, tight deadlines.
