AIG is seeking to hire a highly motivated and experienced individual as Head of Structured Finance that sits within the dynamic & well-established Political Risk Group ‘PRG’. PRG offers a suite of credit products (both single asset and portfolio transactions) including coverage of sovereign, corporate and project finance. Apart from managing and growing the product, the role will require the individual to manage a team of high performing underwriters and train junior members of the team. With underwriting hubs in Asia, EMEA and North America, the Political Risk Group manages a global risk portfolio which is earmarked for growth within AIG’s Credit Lines businesses.
The Role
- Managing the Structured Credit ‘SC’ product which represents one of the six sub-products within the PRG and is one of the largest products in terms of notional limits. Role would also include managing a team of 3 to 4 underwriters based in London.
- Monitoring the existing book and developing and expanding the portfolio for sustainable profitable growth. This will involve originating, analyzing, evaluating and approving a diverse range of SC opportunities within AIG’s underwriting guidelines and delegated approval authority.
- Acting as a referral point for analyzing recommendations from underwriters on SC transactions and making underwriting decisions within delegated UW authority along with Credit Officer for PRG.
- Establishing and strengthening existing relationships with financial institution clients, distribution partners and reinsurers to develop and grow the business.
- Working closely with the Global Head of Political Risk and other product heads in achieving the group budget and driving business growth by leveraging the existing suite of credit products and supporting any new product development.
- Leading insurance policy negotiations and reviewing facility documentation.
- Preparation and review of in-depth internal credit risk assessment (including extensive financial modeling and financial statement analysis) & other related transaction material in support of underwriting requests and recommendations.
- Proactively monitoring a diversified portfolio of structured credit exposures to identify any areas of concern, identifying and escalating any emerging risks and ensuring deteriorating obligor trends are timely identified and working jointly with Claims division to manage problem credits and workout situations.
- Working closely with other internal stakeholders e.g. Actuarial, Finance, Operations, Legal etc.
Candidate Profile
- Bachelor’s Degree, preferably Finance related. Relevant industry accreditations such as FRM, CFA, ACII will be an added benefit.
- Preferably at least up to 10 years of credit underwriting or banking experience in credit/syndication/origination role with transactional experience in structured credit. Ideally candidate will have some Project Finance exposure.
- Strong track record in managing underwriting & credit approval processes and negotiation/execution of loan and insurance documentation.
- Some experience in a managerial capacity.
- Strong cash flow modelling, forecasting and numeric skills with attention to detail.
- Conscientious and diligent, able to manage time pressure and adhere to deadlines.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, strong team player, collegiate mindset, and global cultural awareness.
- Highly detail orientated and excellent time management skills.
