Opportunity Overview: Legal Counsel at AIG
American International Group, Inc. (AIG), a global leader in commercial and personal insurance, is seeking an enthusiastic and proactive Legal Counsel to join its London-based UK Commercial Legal team. This role sits within the Global Legal, Compliance and Regulatory (GLCR) department and provides critical, day-to-day legal support to AIG's UK business operations, including AIG UK and Talbot, a leading specialist (re)insurance managing agent operating in Lloyd’s.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will report directly to the Head of Legal, UK & Talbot, and will be responsible for the following key tasks:
- Legal Advisory: Providing comprehensive and proactive legal advice on product-related legal matters, non-claims disputes, agency, and distribution.
- Transactional Support: Drafting, negotiating, and reviewing a wide range of commercial agreements, including Delegated Underwriting Agreements, Terms of Business Agreements, Broker Engagements, Facilities, and Claims Handling Agreements.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Building strong relationships with internal business units and coordinating with GLCR Centres of Expertise (COEs) on regulatory, compliance, governance, employment, litigation, reinsurance, and data/digital matters.
- Knowledge Management: Developing and updating precedent documents, templates, and guidance notes, and delivering legal training to business teams.
- External Counsel Management: Managing external law firms to ensure high-quality, cost-effective legal delivery aligned with business goals.
Eligibility Criteria
To be considered for this position, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Must be a qualified solicitor.
- Prior professional experience working within a reputable law firm or a global (re)insurer is highly preferred.
- Demonstrated analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills (both written and verbal).
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced corporate environment, with a strong commitment to teamwork and the capability to work autonomously.
