Design and Structural Analysis Engineer (FEA)

Advanced Innovative Engineering is looking for an experienced Design and Structural Analysis Engineer to join our team in Lichfield.

You must be a professional, dynamic, involved person making critical analyses and decisions.

You are expected to be part of a small management team and contribute at all times.

Reporting to the Head of Engineering, you will support AIE in designing and verifying new innovations for the Wankel Rotary Engine power units supplied to Customers within the aerospace transport and power generation markets.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret and translate Customer and Product requirements to system and component specifications
  • Determine design options and develop appropriate verification strategies to demonstrate system/component compliance with specifications, industry standards and legislative demands
  • Perform root cause analysis to determine appropriate design action required
  • Produce a system and component design which demonstrates compliance with
  • Package and clearances
  • Structural performance
  • Environmental performance
  • Delivery of whole system performance
  • Attributes – Thermal, NVH, Fuel Economy, Reliability and Power Delivery
  • Legislative demands
  • Provide Design status and Design Review documentation
  • Use Ansys suite or alternative tool kits of interest for structural analysis
  • Determine appropriate load cases and boundary conditions
  • Confirm structural integrity of engine components when subject to operational loads – thermal, dynamic and combustion
  • Confirm structural integrity of mounting interfaces and load‑bearing systems when subject to shock and drop loads
  • Conduct topology optimization studies to optimise engine system weight
  • Conduct bearing life studies and, based on findings, develop improvement strategies and designs
  • Conduct studies for ancillaries and mounting frames as warranted by the application and project
  • Perform fatigue and durability analysis
  • Interface with Design Engineers to ensure an accurate transfer and implementation of ideas

Experience and Qualifications

  • Minimum experience of 5 years in a similar analysis role
  • Master or higher Degree in a Physics or Engineering discipline
  • Knowledge of material properties appropriate for engine and ancillary systems
  • Understanding of IC engine operation and efficiency improvement drivers

  • Comfortable in managing priorities in line with project, business and customer demand (deliver tasks to commitments)

Thirty‑eight hours a week, Monday to Thursday 8.30 am to 5.30 pm (30‑minute lunch) and Friday 8.30 am to 12.30 pm. 21 days plus statutory bank holidays.

Remuneration

The salary for this post will be commensurate with the capabilities and qualifications of the candidate.
