Allied World\’s Commercial team maintains strong relationships with our broking partners across the UK through a strategy that combines a decisive technical underwriting approach with a commitment to highly responsive service. Due to our success, we are recruiting an Assistant Vice President based in Manchester to support the expansion of our regional offerings. This role offers a fantastic opportunity to join a specialist team with extensive industry experience and a reputation for excellent working relationships. Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop the Allied World portfolio by exploring opportunities with existing partners and establishing new relationships.
- Perform extensive account analysis following underwriting guidelines, including reviewing applications/submissions, risk management protocols, conducting research via online services, and liaising with other departments to understand risk exposures.
- Make referrals as required with the relevant AW contact.
- Ensure timely and accurate issuance of bound policies.
- Collaborate with the wider Commercial Division to contribute to strategy and business plans and execute them.
- Authorize quotes, binders, and invoices in line with company guidelines.
- Maintain underwriting files systematically according to guidelines.
- Supervise work of underwriters as appropriate and oversee the professional development and training of team members or direct reports.
- Participate in marketing activities such as client/broker meetings, social outings, and maintain regular contact with key brokers to discuss production, service, and division operations.
Qualifications
Person Specification:
- 5-7 years of demonstrable experience underwriting commercial combined or property insurance.
- Excellent analytical skills with solid knowledge of pricing, actuarial models, and methods.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills for liaising with clients and brokers, delivering presentations, and building relationships.
- Strong marketing and business development skills, with commercial acumen and negotiation abilities at various seniority levels.
- Proficient in MS Office and advanced in underwriting systems.
- Methodical with strong organizational skills, capable of managing tight reporting and conflicting priorities.
- Team-oriented with a collaborative approach and a focus on coaching and developing junior team members.
