We have an exciting opportunity for an Architect to join our creative and friendly Manchester based team.
About You
With a proven track record as an Architect, you will have sound knowledge of construction and detailing. Your structured approach to problem-solving and decision-making will complement your ability to work with minimum supervision as a collaborative team member.
Your Skills And Experience
- RIBA Part III qualified and registered with the Architects Registration Board
- Minimum 3 year post-qualification experience gained within a UK-based architectural practice
- Experience in the education sector would be advantageous
- Commercial and contractual awareness, including an understanding of AHR's relationships, roles and responsibilities with regard to customers and suppliers
- Advanced Knowledge of SketchUp, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and other digital imaging tools
- Good knowledge of Autodesk Revit (BIM Author requirements set out elsewhere)
- Routine use of Newforma Project Center for managing email, creating, issuing and preserving record documents and sharing files
- Routine use of 'AHR Projects' to view AHR's roles, responsibilities, deliverables and programme etc.
- Good levels of self-organisation, with the ability to plan, organise and manage workflows
- Able to work collaboratively and effectively as a team member and with minimum supervision
- Critical thinking, with the ability to inspire and motivate the team members.
- Able to work under reasonable work-related pressure and maintain excellent attention to detail
Key Responsibilities
- Be an effective team member. Understand where your skillset fits within the team and collaborate with your team mates to achieve best outcomes for the project
- Take receipt of a brief from an AHR Manager and with only limited intervention from them, develop it into a design in line with the RIBA Plan of Work
- Contribute to and help co-ordinate the development of AHR's Pre-Construction Information in line with the RIBA Plan of Work and AHR's Deliverables and DRM
- Achieve efficient and effective design solutions using robust and sustainable design solutions.
- Prepare compliant designs by following UK Construction Law, British Standards and relevant CoPs
- Choose or advise on material selection. Respect the limited availability of natural resources when making design decisions. Take into account design life and durability
- Author specifications using AHR's NBS Masters. Source and evidence supporting and up-to-date technical information from the manufacturers in your project folders
- Assist the Project Team with designing to a budget. On instruction, assist with value-engineering
- Participate in Project Reviews and coordination workshops
- Undertake proper and sufficient checking of self-authored information prior to forwarding to the Project Lead for approval
- Assist in gathering and preparing information required to support statutory submissions, such as Planning, Building Regulations and Building Safety Gateways
- Negotiate with statutory bodies, write reports and complete statutory submissions (planning applications / Gateway submissions / building regulations etc)
- Attend meetings and workshops with Clients, Designers, Contractors, and other Specialists. Formally record issues / actions that affect AHR's scope.
- Start to develop and maintain a network of professional contacts
- Support the Contractor in troubleshooting problems associated with the design
- Support the Project Lead with the maintenance of the Design Risk Registers
- Use Document Control on your project(s) in line with AHR Protocols
