Essential Job Functions:
- Support and work with all pharmacy staff to achieve outstanding pharmaceutical care and business outcomes.
- Actively assist the pharmacist, under their direct supervision, with the filling of new, refill and transfer prescriptions in accordance with current laws, ethical standards, and company policies.
- Maintain confidentiality of customer and company information.
- Thoroughly understand and operate the pharmacy register, computer software and voice messaging system.
- Maintain an atmosphere of enthusiastic customer focus both in person and on the telephone.
- Assist in maintenance of third-party prescription information and resolution of rejected claims.
- Initiate prescription renewal requests to prescribers via telephone call or fax where applicable by law.
- Understand and participate in pharmacy inventory control procedures, including special requirements for controlled substances.
- Receive and obtain information needed on written prescriptions or telephoned refill requests from customers where applicable by law.
- Complete customer purchases in accordance with established store procedures, including verifying customer’s name, date of birth, address and expected quantity of prescriptions at time of pickup.
- Relay specific communications between the customer, fellow technicians, and pharmacists to maintain solid communication within the department.
- Successfully apply training to everyday pharmacy practice.
- Must be able to meet physical requirements of the position, with or without reasonable accommodations.
- Serve as role model for customer service and company standard practices.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Greet all customers and provide them with prompt and courteous service and assistance.
- Help pharmacists prepare prescriptions with accurate data entry, retrieving counting or pouring medications and labeling products.
- Ensure customers receive all their prescriptions in a timely manner.
- Maintain pharmacy records as required in accordance with Standard Practice and by law.
- Help customers find over the counter items.
- Follow and adhere to attendance and paid time off policies.
- Understand and adhere to state specific and federal laws and regulations.
- Assist pharmacist in maintaining pharmacy inventory, including ordering and returning product, stocking shelves, and proper separation and return of outdated product.
- Share in responsibility for department maintenance and cleanliness by maintaining the quality of department’s appearance and presentation.
- Maintain and assist with ordering pharmacy department supplies (e.g., bottles, bags, labels, staples, etc.).
- Observe, adhere, and understand all company policies and Company Standard Practices.
- Always maintain a neat, well-groomed personal appearance and comply with company personal appearance and pharmacy dress code policies.
- Support company safety standards. Communicate any need for equipment repairs, or maintenance work needed. Keep work area free of debris and safety hazards.
- Treat all co-workers with fairness, dignity, and respect.
- Foster a positive and enthusiastic environment to retain associates and customers.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements:
- Stand 100% of the shift with occasional walking short distances.
- Use of computer, pharmacy filling equipment and register 90% of time.
- Use hands to frequently/continuously handle a variety of sizes of containers then manipulate individual pills/capsules and the equipment used to count them.
- Clerical accuracy skills and mathematical skills including the ability to operate cash register.
- Ability to use office supplies, communication devices, and computer systems frequently.
- Frequent/continuous reaching, grasping, lifting, and carrying up to 20 lb. below the waist level and at or above shoulder level.
- Bend at the knees and waist repetitively throughout the workday.
- Have sufficient visual acuity and audio capability to process prescriptions and service customers.
